#OrderFireFriday . . . Lowcountry Fresh Market & Café is due to open in Bluffton this spring. A place that in conjunction with the Gullah Farmers’ Cooperative Association is designed to support the local community by offering a place that sells local produce, seafood and more. Our friend, Chef B.J. Dennis, has signed on as their Culinary Director. We know his knowledge, passion and dedication to the foodways of the South will benefit Bluffton and far beyond. Looking forward to checking it out!

The end of the year has arrived! Though nothing about 2020 was normal, we’ll be hosting our annual New Years festivities. Our kitchen team has put together a stellar pre-fixed dinner for New Years Eve and the Oyster Roast in The Yard sold out within days. We’re thankful for the support the community of Savannah and the restaurant industry has shown us over the past year. We hope to see you for dinner or a drink in The Diner Bar tomorrow night. Here’s to ringing in 2021!

#OrderFireFriday . . . Many people dedicate their lives to wine; some study it’s history, some focus on selling it while others are just here for the party. We love that all of these types of people exist but hold the winemakers themselves at a special level of respect. Shout out to winemaker Cathy Corison, a woman who started her career nearly 45 years ago, who’s focus on the grape and sustainability results in straight up elegant vintages.

After a long hiatus because of book obligations, our managing partner, Johno Morisano, comes back to blog writing. Read about the launch of the The Current GA a new news source in Savannah and coastal Georgia, inspired by the memory of our friend Scott Waldrup.

VOTE. Election day should be a National Holiday. But working Americans across the country must often choose between casting a ballot or losing a shift. No voter should have to make that choice. No one should be denied or limited in their ability to vote because of work. And all Americans should be allowed the patriotic opportunity to spend Election Day as critical poll workers or volunteering to secure the right to speak our minds.... This year we are joining with restaurants across the country ensuring our establishments will be closed on November 3rd. With over 11 million employees, independent restaurants have the power to influence outcomes up and down the ballot. Our Democracy is founded on our participation. And at no other time has our collective power been more challenged than during this pandemic. Voting is not a Red or Blue issue, it’s a Red, White and Blue issue. We realize that, despite many months of struggle, we have the strength now to support our workers as they head to the polls. Please join us.

Some of you might remember a few years back when our friend and chef Ned Baldwin came down to cook at The Grey from his restaurant Houseman in NYC. Ned and Mashama go way back to Prune and Johno has been giving Ned's cookbook, "How to Dress an Egg" a pandemic, we-eat-in-more-than-we-eat-out, work out. His book came out earlier this year and if you like simple, delicious food, this needs to be in your cookbook arsenal. Really, it does! #goodfriends #simplefoodisdeliciousfood #nedbaldwin #mashamabailey #johnomorisano #howtodressanegg #nyc #savannah

Hey guests and supporters of The Grey and The Grey Market. We have been extremely understaffed since we reopened in July and have been running our restaurants with a skeleton crew but meeting our service standards (for the most part) during that period. Over the last week or so, we have had a few folks on the team test positive and other folks go to get tested and are awaiting results before returning to work. Rather than forcing the issue of trying to provide our desired lev...el of service and further stress everyone out during what is already a very stressful time, we have decided to close The Grey and The Grey Market for the remainder of the weekend. This will allow us to catch our collective breath. We will provide an update on next week’s status around Tuesday or Wednesday. Of course, we continue to follow all appropriate health and safety protocols within the restaurants. Thanks for understanding as we do our best to navigate what is nearly an unnavigable time. See more
