Learning "For Real" 25.01.2021

WE WILL BE OK! This is one of my favorite signs! It spells HOPE! After the six month school lockdown, followed by a spotty attendance since September, ... will our children’s education be OK? Here at Learning For Real those ever-widening gaps will be closed. Enrolling your child in a small group class of four students would only cost you $15 per hour. To be added to a waiting list for forming that group, call or text Elizabeth at 706-212-8585.

Learning For Real is safe, effective, and AFFORDABLE! Following a grade level assessment, gaps and deficiencies are targeted and resolved. Reaching grade level is possible! The RESULTS are AMAZING!!! One Half hour Semi-private class (2 students) One subject $15 each student... One hour small group class (4 students) One subject $15 each student Reaching grade level in reading and mathematics is paramount! Both are developmental and cannot be quickly recovered. Other subjects requiring content area reading, such as, social studies and science, are totally dependent on adequate reading skills. With grade-level reading skills those subjects can be swiftly remediated. Mathematics is not only a life skill...almost every job requires math. Therefore, my primary focus at Learning For Real is language arts and mathematics. Precautionary Covid sanitary measures are in place. Please visit the Facebook page for Learning For Real for a detailed description. My GIFT complementary assessment test ends on Saturday, January 16, 2021. The value of this free offer ranges from $75-$100, depending on grade level. Call or text Elizabeth at 706-212-8585 to schedule your child’s grade level assessment test. (If you prefer to administer a grade level assessment test on your own, let me know, and I will provide a link. The test includes an answer key. Following the test you can determine the need and importance of supplemental lessons.)

THOUGHTS ON THE ACADEMIC CONSEQUENCES OF THE CORONAVIRUS * Students are being moved forward into the next grade level with a voi...d of 1/3 of the previous grade level’s in-class instruction. * The homeschooling during the shelter-at-home period varied significantly from minimal independent computer work to substantial guidance by parents. Under these circumstances can current grade level work be expected and successful for most? * Some parents were dealing with two or three children at different grade levels during the coronavirus. Without complete knowledge of the curriculum for each grade level, the ability to assist adequately is limited at best. YOU ASK, WHAT IS THE PLAN? Based on my own understanding and knowledge of children’s educational progress and needs, the articles and research that have been done publicly regarding the dire situation confirm my concerns. Below I have copied a short conclusion of the findings of one of themCovid-19’s Impact on Students’ Academic and Mental Well-Being by Youki Terada. In the study, researchers analyzed a national sample of 5 million students in grades 38 who took the MAP Growth test, a tool schools use to assess students’ reading and math growth throughout the school year. The researchers predict that, on average, students will experience substantial drops in reading and math, losing roughly three months’ worth of gains in reading and five months’ worth of gains in math. For Megan Kuhfeld, the lead author of the study, the biggest takeaway isn’t that learning loss will happenthat’s a given by this pointbut that students will come back to school having declined at vastly different rates. I SAY, LET’S BRING IN THE NEW YEAR WITH PROGRESS! During the first two weeks of January 2021, I am offering a complementary Mastery Test for one subject of your choice for your child (Grade 1 to 8).
