The city of Atlanta suffered a nasty virus attack over a week and a half ago. It literally shut down permit processing for 2 to 3 days. I guess the most shocking thing to me was seeing how something like this can cripple a department that generates revenues and suddenly, bam, no money collection. Let alone, collecting money was a portion of the issue, just not having a computer to update customers or even input review results or check emails, is a strong indication that a ...city as massive as Atlanta really need a back up plan. As of today, the city is still not up to 100% restoration. They have substituted another server so the employees can at least semi begin to normalize daily functions. Some employees are still totally unplugged from the wall. And GIS is only available by a bit link. We'll see what this week holds and any possible resolution. Else, we are still hanging in there and going with the flow.

Hi Good People. On my way to my next stop and was thinking about how we do business. Specifically, consulting. And what I've noticed is sometimes, clients don't want to know everything. It's important to us to know as much as we can about a project so we can properly set it up, expedite, that is. When we initialize a quote, we ask for a pdf of the site plan and if possible a full set of architectural plans. We do this for a number of reasons. 1. To acclimate ourselv...es to the property, 2. Confirm the municipality, 3. Confirm zoning (allowance/restrictions), 4. Prepare an accurate quote and last but not only, 5. To call out any discrepancies that may end up costly to timing, printing and consulting. There's a big benefit in a pre-review when it can potentially save a client $200 to $300 in prints and 2 to 3 weeks in revisions. And though we don't do building code reviews, there are some typical codes we do recognize, as in riser and tread dimensions, plan format, labeling, etc. We are heavily practiced in zoning code. Since zoning is the first and foremost step in all planning, our zoning consultation is the first line of defense. It is imperative that zoning is compliant before submittal. In essence, zoning can intensely make or break a permit deal. So if we seem ANAL-lytical, don't be offended or nervous that we are about to reveal a few truths, and it's definitely not to hold up your project, but receive the consultation and preventative advice. It's not personal. Our advice, when you rush rush rush, be prepared to huff huff huff-there will be exhausting expensive road blocks. Let us do the preapp review and look at those road blocks ahead of time so the run will be less rough. TPS, LLC.

I love to watch shows and movies that talk about those inspections and co's. And how they gotta get a building permit or a development Permit or even a variance...I know that struggle. I really be listening to see how accurate their facts are....ah the life of a consultant.
