One year ago! This was such a fantastic event, we still talk about it and kinda want to do it again. Just not under the same circumstances Last year our food supply chain went a bit nuts, thanks to Covid-19, and the country's farms and restaurants were suddenly faced with some really huge challenges. One of the (many) big ones was distributing farmed produce - that's produce that was already being produced and earmarked for somewhere. But that "somewhere" was often a rest...aurant or store that wasn't accessible, for whatever reason. Farmers were losing their crops and their income, trucks weren't making it to restaurants, and the restaurants were having to close. So, we had to look to provide more local options, and one was selling boxes of fresh Georgia grown produce in a one-time mega pop-up sale. The original posts announced we were supporting Georgia Grown, Augusta Locally Grown, and the Georgia farmers impacted by the changes in the supply chain due to Covid-19. "We have 10,000 boxes of homegrown produce - squash, corn, fruit, onions, etc. - to sell for $20 each, next Thursday, June 18." It was a simple call, but y'all showed up. The volunteers and all the people who wanted to buy a box or five, and we were sold out by mid-afternoon!
