Montessori said we must prepare the children for the world in which they live. Unfortunately for many of us right now, that includes masks.Thank you @ashspeedteaches @clove.bird and @teacherspayteachers for this timely resource!
Motivators. Innovators. Believers. Teachers. We are celebrating Teacher Appreciation week at our Ponce City Market campus. Whether you’re a teacher or a caregiver who never thought they’d be at home with virtual learners- thank you! You are superheroes.
Our teachers are stellar. They are the heart and soul of our school. Today, after over 20 years, one of Suzuki’s most tenured teachers is heading to retirement. Thank you for your service to our school Ms. Vera! You have made an impact on so many young children - we will miss you! . . . #montessori #teachersofinstagram #montessoriteacher #preschool #earlychildhoodeducation #education #atlanta
Montessori children learn independence at an early age, which makes their ability to face challenges strong! Even unexpected ones like masks can’t keep them from learning.
Congratulations Graduates! Our first-ever drive-through graduation (at our Northside campus) was a hit! We’ve said (or will be saying) goodbye to many graduates this summer, and we are so proud of all that they’ve accomplished this year. They have handled unexpected transitions with grace, a noble heart, and strength, and we are elated to have been part of their journey.
Hello Suzuki Families! Don't forget: we will be closed starting tomorrow, from July 1st, through Friday, July 3rd for the Independence Day holiday. We hope you have a wonderful break and enjoy this time with your families!
We are proud to be Montessorians, and proud partners of AMS. https://amshq.org//2020-06-01-Black-Lives-Matter-Message-f
Yesterday, Suzuki welcomed children back to school after being closed for 10 weeks due to COVID19. As we face this new world, we recognize that our new reality goes much further than just responding to the pandemic, but also requires supporting our African American parents, students and staff, who have felt the effects of systemic oppression and racism in our country. The pandemic is new, but these problems have haunted us for centuries. There are too many names of lost lives... and injustices, including the recent additions of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Ahmaud Arbery. We have shed tears realizing how our friends, neighbors, classmates, children and future leaders of color are too often dehumanized for simply living their lives. And we also know that they live with the palpable fear of losing their own life, or that of a loved one. As an organization, we know that we are not immune from potential racial injustices in our own school. Because of this awareness, we started working 18 months ago to educate ourselves on how to create a more inclusive environment. Over the 10 week closure, our faculty and staff also participated in zoom sessions and facilitated training sessions addressing unconscious bias, equity and inclusion, examining our own school culture, and identifying changes that need to be made. This work will continue over the next year, and we will also bring parents into these conversations. Together we will develop an inclusive and equitable plan in which to operate the school. We know that genuine change only comes when we recognize and own our ignorances, and begin deep change in our values and beliefs. We want to ensure that parents feel comfortable addressing perceived inequities with us, and that we as a school will be equipped to recognize problems as they happen, take action to resolve them, and to move forward with unity and conviction. Please know that our entire leadership team has made a commitment to all our faculty and families that we will support them while we continue our journey of self-reflection and education so that we become a more understanding and inclusive community. Thank you for being a part of our school.
