#BREAKINGNEWS U.S. Marshals have arrested two men who were being sought in the Nov. 22 shooting death of a Bowdon man. Cameron Allen, age 18, and Jadarakis JD Caldwell, age 18, were arrested in Atlanta, according to the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office. They are both wanted in connection with the death of Christopher Parker, who was found dead of a gunshot wound outside an Angela Drive residence. #BREAKINGNEWS Carroll County schools will shift to distance learning on Monday, closing all its schools to in-person learning. The school system announced Friday it was doing so out of an abundance of caution due to the rising number of COVID-19 cases in the community. This does not apply to Carrollton City Schools, which also announced on Friday that it would maintain in-person instruction for the time being while maintaining safety protocols. #BREAKINGNEWS Tim Barron has been named Head Football Coach for Villa Rica High School, replacing Christian Hunnicutt. Barron is formerly the coach at Heard County, where during his career HCHS had 18 state play-off appearances, earned 7 region titles, and won the 2018 State Championship. #BREAKING The City of Carrollton has hired Rome Assistant City Manager Patrick Eidson to become the assistant city manager for Carrollton. Eidson announced his resignation in Rome on Thursday, effective Dec. 31. He will start as Carrollton's assistant city manager in January.

Carrollton running backs Keshawn Ridley and Christian Lett scored two touchdowns each, propelling the Trojans to a 39-13 victory over the Sprayberry Yellow Jackets on a chilly Friday night in the second round of the Class AAAAAA state playoffs at Grisham Stadium. Carrollton won its third straight game to improve to 8-2 overall and advanced to the state quarterfinals next Friday. The playoff run is over for Sprayberry, which did win its first-ever state playoff game last week.... The Yellow Jackets season ends with a 7-5 record. Carrollton gets to host the Valdosta Wildcats - big winners over No. 1 seed Evans Friday night - in the friendly confines of Grisham Stadium in Elite Eight action. Valdosta will bring all their tradition and notoriety to Carrollton. "This is a testament to our kids and our coaches. We were prepared to play Sprayberry and we went out and played a great game," said Trojans head coach Sean Calhoun. Valdosta leads Evans 29-0. If Carrollton and Valdosta win tonight the Trojans would host Valdosta next Friday at Grisham Stadium. #BREAKING The University of West Georgia Faculty Senate has approved by majority vote a resolution of "No Confidence" in President Brendan Kelly. A general faculty vote will take place in the coming days/weeks. This vote will determine if the resolution is brought to the University System of Georgia Board of Regents. Carrollton freshman running back Bryce Hicks rushed for 116 yards and two touchdowns in the second half and the Trojans defense made big plays all night, propelling Carrollton to a 34-12 victory over the Rome Wolves on a rainy Friday night in Region 5-AAAAAA action at Grisham Stadium. Carrollton won its second straight game to improve to 2-1 overall and 2-0 in region play while Rome falls to 2-3, 1-1. Carrollton remains in first place, tied with Douglas County (2-0 region), w...hich beat region rival Alexander (1-1) Friday. "This is a phenomenal bunch of guys. It is only our third game this season and I tell you what, they earned that victory," said a happy Trojans head coach Sean Calhoun. "We have a lot of stuff to fix, but it's better to fix it with a win." #BREAKING A tractor-trailer was struck in downtown Villa Rica by a train as it was crossing over the tracks. Police have reported that there are no injuries from the accident. More details will be provided as they become available. Update: The accident occurred at the intersection of Hwy 78 and S. Carroll Rd. Police said that while there are no injuries, it will take time to clear the railroad tracks and roadway. Police are asking people to avoid this area and take alternative routes when driving through the city for the next few hours.
