Tracy Talley State Farm & Chic-Fil-A Lavonia, Franklin County High School Athlete of the Week belongs to Tara LockeJuniorCompetition Cheer Tara Locke has jumped, tumbled, and stunted her way into this week’s spotlight as Athlete of the Week. Tara belongs to FCHS Competition Cheer Squad and has maintained a position on this squad since her freshman year of high school. During stunts, Tara is one of the team’s bases. Many would argue that the base position in stunts is th...e hardest position. Her role is to provide a solid foundation for the flyer or top girl in the stunt. Without having a solid base, no stunt would ever truly be successful. Tara is also one of the main tumblers for team. You will often find her doing round-offs and back handsprings during their 2 minute routine. During Tara’s freshman year of competition cheer, the team placed 12th in state, and in her sophomore year, the team placed 13th in state. She credits a great deal of their success to one of their coaches, Megan Jackson. She admires Megan because she is a great leader, motivating, and encouraging to all the members of the squad. Tara’s teammates love having Tara on the squad because they know that they can always rely on her to do her part. Not only is Tara a vital part of FCHS Competition Cheer Team, she also is a well-rounded student. She is a member of FCA, HOSA, and BETA clubs. She loves math and finds inspiration from her favorite teacher, Mrs. Baty. She cherishes how Mrs. Baty always cares for her students and hopes to always remember that it is importance of caring for others. After high school, Tara hopes to go to college and become a physical therapist. We are excited and honored to call Tara Locke this week’s Athlete of the Week.
