Wasps are despised by almost everyone, but they are actually incredibly beneficial. When the fall comes around Yellow Jackets switch to sugar foragers preparing... the nest for the queen which is the only one to live through the winter to have ample food for the long winter. Had the opportunity to hold a help and learn problem solving class with new beekeepers. This hive swarmed in to this hive last spring and was never touched till... Monday when I received a swarm call from Edward Stift. Paul and myself arrived as the swarm went back into the hive. We found the queen and made a split and closed it back up. Today Ed, Paul, Wade, Mr Nunley the owner and myself cleaned the hive and learned valuable problem solving lessons. See more

My very first student dropped by and within minutes he could not resist working bees. Genetics I can not say enough about them. You do not need to put up with defensive or aggressive honey bees.

Here is a great guide to what you will find on your bottom board if you use solid bottoms. If you use screened bottoms you can put the tray in for a day or 2 an...d see what's falling. I personally do not use screened bottoms because for me they create more problems than they ever will solve. See more

From 8 over wintered colonies to 17 at home and 5 on the canola field. I would say he's learning rather well.
