Congratulations to Troup County Firefighter Andreas Harrilson for being chosen as the Optimist Club’s Firefighter of the Year! Harrilson was chosen by a panel within the Troup County Fire Department that consisted of 2 firefighters, the Training Captain, and the Deputy Chief. Each Battalion submitted a biography of one exceptional firefighter for the panel to choose from, and the panel unanimously selected FF Harrilson! Harrilson has been with the Troup County Fire Departme...nt for 17 years and has two outstanding children with his wife, Jessica. He was described by Battalion Chief Robinson as being self-motivated and extremely dependable, and he has obtained the following educational accomplishments: National Pro-board Firefighter 1 and 2, Fire Officer 1, 2 and 3 (working on Fire Officer 4), Hazardous Materials Technician, and Fire Instructor 1 and 2. Troup County Accountability Court DUI/Drug Court program recently held a graduation for several participants, recognizing graduates who successfully completed the 12-month program. Guest Speaker Daniel Acosta emphasized the importance of the program, and the importance of staying focus. The Troup County DUI/Drug Court was implemented in 2004.... The program is intended to promote a safer community by identifying non-violent substance abuse offenders, providing necessary treatment, and helping participants complete a judicially-supervised treatment program. Toys for Tots Program is now collecting new, unwrapped toys for Christmas! With only 22 days to Christmas, The U.S. Marine Corps Reserve is asking for your help to bring the joy Of Christmas to less-fortunate children. The Troup County Government Center, 100 Ridley Avenue, LaGrange, GA,30240, will be a drop-off location for this year's Toys for Tots drive. The last day for drop off is December 20th. You may come by during our business hours and drop off a new unwrapped toy.

Tis the Season, But did you know? A heat source to close to the Christmas tree causes 1 in every 4 winter fires. Follow these tips from the U.S. Fire Administration Department to keep you and your family safe this holiday season.... Water your live Christmas tree every day. A dry tree is a fire hazardtrees too close to a heat source causes 1 in every 4 winter fires. Make sure you are using the right lights. Some lights are only for indoor or outdoor use, but not both. Replace any string of lights with worn or broken cords or loose bulb connections. Choose holiday decorations that are flame resistant or flame retardant. Keep lit candles away from decorations and things that can burn. More than 1/3 of home decoration fires are started by candles. Consider using flameless candles; they look very similar and are safer. Blow out lit candles and turn off all light strings and decorations when leaving the room or going to bed. Make sure your decorations don’t block windows and doors. See more
