Troup County Weather Alerts 09.06.2021

Troup County Weather Alerts 01.06.2021

*Be sure to check the WTVM weather app for the latest FutureCast* We can't rule out a brief, spin-up tornado on Saturday. This is common with tropical systems,... and luckily these storms are small, brief, and mostly weak. That doesn't mean there isn't a danger, however - we'll be watching, especially during the afternoon, evening, and early nighttime hours. You can keep up with things on the TV side and the WTVM weather app all day. Heavy rain will be the main concern, and we will watch for the flood threat in the spots that pick up the heaviest rain. Look for improvements to the weather later on Sunday, especially late in the day! Anna is back on TV at 7 AM with the absolute latest! -DK See more

Troup County Weather Alerts 11.11.2020

New Year’s Eve - New Year’s Day... Split flow pattern between sub tropical and polar jet streams is currently evolutionizing, eventually becoming influenced by ...back to back cut-off lows’ with the leading one being the primary concern for severe weather, as it moves over northern Mexico, neutralized, with a southern stream jet max ejecting out of it’s base and further enhancing wind trajectories in favor of divergence down shear the primary cyclonic maxima lifting towards the Dixie alley and the Ohio valley regions- becoming negative tilted in response. Lower levels showing cyclogenesis rapidly developing over southern texas, moving towards the Arklatex region, with strong 60KT low level shear cranking up, and a northward moist flux of 60 degree dew points setting up a warm sector with the primary forcing for ascent being a cold front(as low level convergence strengthens with approach of a mid level pressure perturbation)... Long range models are currently showing marginal, but supportive convective lapse rates(LRs’). *A severe weather threat maybe increasing for New Years if these marginal thermodynamical profiles continues to trend* #AmericaWeather

Eta is back to hurricane strength, but this should not be a hurricane that will rapidly strengthen as shear and cooler Gulf of Mexico waters will keep it steady... or weaken it. Eta is expected to hit the northwest coast of Florida tomorrow morning with strong winds, heavy rain and a storm surge of up to 5 feet. Flooding and even a few waterspouts and tornadoes are expected today through Thursday. Be prepared and follow Eta with the RadarOmega app. #radaromega #Eta #HurricaneEta #flwx See more

Troup County Weather Alerts 19.07.2020

We're watching the track of now Tropical Depression Eta carefully - by the middle and end of next week, there is a chance it can make it into the Gulf of Mexico... and could bring some rain into our neck of the woods. I'll have more info for you on the TV side of things at 10 & 11 PM ET tonight with the latest from the National Hurricane Center. -DK See more

The severe weather outlook for Saturday - likely the late evening or night, or even overnight- has crept in to our East Alabama counties. SUNDAY TROPICAL UPDATE INVEST-92L is getting better organized this morning, with increasing spin on satellite, but needs more thunderstorms before it can b...ecome a tropical depression. 92L will push to the west-northwest into the central Atlantic over the next several days, where conditions will be favorable for it to become a depression or storm. The National Hurricane Center gives it a high 90% chance of development over the next 5 days. Behind 92L, a vigorous tropical wave is pushing off the west African Coast today, and has been labeled INVEST-93L. 93L is likely to become a tropical depression or storm as it pushes westward across the eastern tropical Atlantic over the next few days. Right now, the National Hurricane Center gives it a high 80% chance of development. Models unanimously develop 92L & 93L, but it’s too early to know if they will affect land. It’s worth mentioning that models still signal a path out to sea, but have trended west over the past day. Either way, both disturbances are over 3000 miles away from the United States, so plenty of time to watch! Meanwhile, a tropical wave in the central Caribbean has flared up over the past day or so. Conditions are favorable for slow development over the next couple of days, however, once it reaches the western Caribbean midweek, upper level winds will become hostile, likely halting any organization. The National Hurricane Center gives this disturbance a low 10% chance of development over the next 5 days. Yet another area of disturbed weather has developed near Bermuda overnight. Conditions will be somewhat favorable for slow development as it slides west-northwest over the next several days towards the Carolinas. The National Hurricane Center gives this disturbance a low 20% chance of development. Models are becoming more aggressive with developing this feature, and I expect the development chances to go up. Next names are PAULETTE, RENE, and SALLY. By the way, only six more names left until the Greek Alphabet! The only time that ever happened was the historic 2005 Atlantic Hurricane Season.

Tropical Storm Laura is the swirling area of clouds centered over northern Louisiana and southern Arkansas, as seen on this visible satellite image from around ...4:55 PM this afternoon. Troup County Weather Alerts 16.09.2019

New NHC forecast package is out. A Hurricane Warning is now in effect from San Luis Pass Texas to Intracoastal City Louisiana. They note since the storm has be...en tracking west of forecast expectations for quite some time, future westward track adjustments could be required later today. Still expected to be a powerful hurricane at the time of landfall tomorrow night. Do not focus on the details of the official forecast given the typical uncertainty in NHC's track and intensity predictions. Storm surge, wind, and rainfall hazards will extend well away from Laura's center along the Gulf Coast. CENTRAL GULF COAST: Dangerous rip currents are likely through Friday from Gulf Shores to Panama City Beach. But, other than a stiff south breeze and occasional tropical showers, there will be no direct weather impact from Laura tomorrow and Thursday in this region. The dangerous storm surge and highs winds will be far to the west. INLAND ALABAMA: The primary threat of tornadoes associated with the system Thursday, for now, seems to be west of Alabama over parts of Mississippi, Louisiana, and Arkansas. Deep tropical moisture will bring potential for some heavy rain to parts of Alabama Friday. (The rain we are experiencing today is from Marco, now a remnant low).
