Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter. Today we celebrate and honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. And remember all the great things he did to bring change and equality for all in this country. Long live the king!!! ... #DrMartinLutherKingJr #MLK #MLKDay
Happy New Week! It’s already the last Monday in January?! This might be the fastest January ever. As we head into a new month, remember that having faith without putting in action is not enough. Onye kwe Chi ya ekwe - A person has to take a bold step towards the realization of a dream before expecting God to bless them. Don’t ask God to guide your footsteps if you’re not willing to move your feet. I hope someone sees this as a sign to start putting in effort, no matter how small. Set your mind on a goal, put in work then leave the rest for God to handle. Have a blessed week!

Congratulations to Dr. Unoma Emenike for her appointment in the role of Nigeria’s Ambassador-designate to the US! This makes her the first female ambassador to the US. Emenike hails from Abia state and is currently the Nigerian Ambassador to Ireland and Iceland. She has a doctorate degree in International relations from the University of Reading in the UK. She also has two master’s degree; one in International Law and Diplomacy from the University of Lagos (Unilag), and the... second one in International management from the University of Reading. This is a huge victory for women & Igbo’s in Nigeria. It is also a big step in the right direction towards a new and better Nigeria!
"We've seen a force that would shatter our nation rather than share it, Would destroy our country if it meant delaying democracy. And this effort very nearly succeeded.... But while democracy can be periodically delayed, It can never be permanently defeated. In this truth, in this faith we trust. For while we have our eyes on the future, History has its eyes on us."-Poet @amandascgorman Congratulations to President #JoeBiden and Vice President #KamalaHarris
Don’t forget to join @uiucares on zoom tomorrow to talk about everything COVID related!
Today is a memorable day for Igbo’s all over the world. On Jan 15th, 1970, the Biafra Civil war against the Nigerian army ended. The war started in July 1967. During the war, millions of Igbo people died, and we remember them today. Some died at the war front and others died from starvation, since there was hardly any food. The impact of this war is still seen in the lives of so many Igbo people today. Many Igbo’s feel sidelined in Nigerian politics as there hasn’t been an Igbo president since then. We will undoubtedly strive for success, and we pray that the souls of those lost from the Biafra Civil War continue to rest in power.
Congratulations to Yvonne Orji @yvonneorji on getting the chance to tap into her experience as a Nigerian-born, first-generation American in First Gen, a half-hour comedy, which is in development at Disney+. She also has A-list collaborators working on the project, such as British-born Nigerian-American actor David Oyelowo and Oprah Winfrey. First Gen, which is written by Orji, is based on Orji’s personal experiences growing up as a Nigerian immigrant in America. As a child, she’s caught between trying to honor her parents and culture while simultaneously trying to assimilate to American life. We are so proud of all her hard work and accomplishments.
