Congratulations to our Chief Nursing Officer, Julia Barnett, for being chosen as the Blairsville-Union County Chamber of Commerce's "Person of the Year"! The chamber chose Julia to receive this honor for her level-headed leadership of the nursing staff, for her heroic efforts on behalf of our community during the Covid-19 crisis, and for her faithful service to the citizens of the Tri-State area. For being on-call 24/7, for going without sleep, for consulting with experts and officials daily and at a moment’s notice, and for doing all of it with grace and poise. Julia stands as a beacon of hope and life. We are very grateful for her service and for everything she does for our community.

Congratulations to the first baby born at Union General Hospital in 2021! Handsome baby boy, Shepard Knight Sumrell, was born at 1:14 p.m. on Saturday, January 2nd with Dr. Kevin Davis as the delivering physician. He weighed in at 9 pounds, 7 ounces, and measured 21 inches long. The proud parents are Karli Bonner and Joshua Sumrell from Hayesville, North Carolina.... To welcome the first baby of the new year, Union General Hospital's Labor & Delivery Department, gave the parents a basket of baby gifts. We wish you a lifetime of happiness, Shepard!
