#UWG recently took over "The Academic Minute," a collaborative program from WAMC public radio in Albany, New York, and the Association of American Colleges and Universities. "The Academic Minute" is a daily module featuring researchers from colleges and universities around the world, keeping listeners abreast of what’s new and exciting in the academy. #UWG President and First Lady Drs. Brendan and Tressa Kelly wish you and yours a happy holiday season filled with peace and joy. Go West, and Go Wolves!

With the help of Dr Pepper and, interestingly enough, a University of West Georgia staff member named Pepper UWG nursing student Chemari Reeves has been awarded $75,000 in scholarship money to finish her degree debt-free. The Palmetto, Georgia, resident a junior who takes nursing courses at UWG Newnan was the runner-up in the soft drink’s annual Tuition Giveaway in the Southeastern Conference (SEC) division. Way to go, Chemari!

For the University of West Georgia Graduate School, business is booming. Enrollment of students studying for advanced certificates and degrees at UWG has steadily increased 57.8 percent for the past seven years from 1,957 students in 2014 to 3,088 students in 2020.

More than 1,250 University of West Georgia graduates walked the stage at University Stadium during the institution’s first in-person Commencement ceremony in 2020.

Welcome West! The University of West Georgia is proud to announce the naming of Dr. Jon Preston as the University of West Georgia's next provost and senior vice president for academic affairs, effective Dec. 1. As provost, Preston will serve as our university’s chief academic officer and dean of the faculty. As such, he will be responsible for the formulation and implementation of all academic plans, policies, priorities, and innovations to ensure the university’s curriculum ...remains vibrant, relevant, rigorous, and meets the highest levels of academic attainment. We are eager to bring Dr. Preston on board in the next month and connect him across campus and the communities we serve as he begins in his new role. O N E M I L L I O N The University of West Georgia recently concluded its annual A Day to Give West known as A Day campaign, notching more than $1 million in gifts to support the university’s annual fund. The $1,000,496 raised will support scholarships, enhancements to campus, laboratory equipment, recreational activities, and other initiatives and programs.
