The Association for Leadership Science in Nursing (ALSN) elected Dr. Laura Caramanica, associate professor, UWG THS School of Nursing, to its board this year as the VP of Programs (2021-2022). Among her Board position responsibilities, Dr. Caramanica will be working on the program for the annual conference and developing and offering the webinar series throughout the year.

Welcome to Jakayla Williams, a new student assistant for UWG THS School of Nursing. Jakayla is a UWG sophomore marketing major whose hometown is LaGrange, GA. After graduation, she plans to delve into her own business, getting her cosmetology and business licenses and employing multiple certified technicians in her own shop. In her spare time, she is a graphic designer and designs custom apparel and logos. Her astrological sign is Leo. Her favorite quote is a Bible verse Habakkuk 2:2 (NLV): "Write down the revelation and make it plain on tablets so that a herald may run with it." It reminds her of her goals and how to focus to achieve them. Welcome, Jakayla!

Meet Margaret (Maggie) Darracott, student assistant in the UWG THS School of Nursing Skills and Simulation Lab, Newnan Campus. Maggie is a senior nursing student from Newnan. When she graduates and after taking the NCLEX, she wants to pursue a career at The Cancer Treatment of America in Atlanta. Fun facts about Maggie? She used to work at The UGA Meat Science and Technology Center and her favorite book is The Best of Me by Nicholas Sparks.

Sigma Invites Applications for Sigma/Jonas Philanthropies Collaborative Research Grant Deadline: December 1, 2020 Grants of up to $10,000 will be awarded. The program aims to support nursing research that will help improve health care for the most vulnerable citizens of the United States. Through the program, three grants are available for projects that address a pressing health care issue in the areas of environmental health, mental health, rural health, veterans’ health ca...re, or visual health. Grants of up to $10,000 will be awarded. To be eligible, applicants must be a registered nurse with a current license or a doctoral nurse scholar (PhD, DNP, EdD, DNSc, PhD-DNP). Special consideration will be given to Jonas Scholars and Sigma members.
