Hurricane Zeta is gaining strength, and is now expected to make landfall as a category 2 hurricane. Our main impact will be strong wind gusts as the system pass...es by to our northwest. Today: We'll stay dry for the most part and socked in with cloud cover. No significant weather is expected during the daytime hours. Tonight - Early Thursday: Wind gusts pick up out of the south-southeast. The strongest gusts begin to move in closer to sunrise Thursday. Central GA is still looking at the possibility of 30-40MPH gusts, with a few stronger gusts in the 40-50MPH range. A few showers are also possible, but widespread heavy rain should be avoided. Daytime Thursday: Gusty winds continue, now out of the southwest. We'll also have to watch for a low end tornado threat with any storms that manage to develop. Impacts: Wind gusts of 30-40 with isolated higher gusts will be enough to down a few trees and lead to some power outages. It would be a good idea to make sure phones and laptops are charged in case power outages occur. Flooding rains are not expected locally. In fact, rainfall totals look quite low. There is a low, but not zero threat for tornadoes on Thursday. Have a way to receive tornado warnings. By Friday we are clearing our and fall is returning to central Georgia! We have the best weather team in central GA, and we'll keep you up to date each step of the way.

Good Afternoon, After conferring with the officers and given the rapidly changing guidance from the CDC, school closures, and cancellation of festivals because of the Corona virus, I am cancelling the March MARC VE Testing Session and Meeting scheduled for Thursday, March 19, 2020. With the cancellation of the Cherry Blossom Festival, I am also cancelling our Cherry Blossom Festival Special Event Station on Saturday, March 28, 2020. I would rather err on the side of caution than to place you at risk of exposure to COVID 19. Please stay safe. Don't forget to wash!
