#TBT Dr. Glenn Burton kept the bermudagrass portion of his research private for several years since growers at his first meeting told him, "It's our worst weed...." That was in 1936. The Coastal Plain Experiment Station, now a part of UGA Tifton, released Coastal bermuda in 1943. Over his 68 year career at the Coastal Plain Experiment Station, Burton saved millions from starvation with his pearl millet research that contributed to the Green revolution in arid parts of India and Africa. He transformed bermudagrass - one of the South's worst weeds - into the best forage grass. He also developed six turfgrass hybrids that are grown on golf courses, athletic fields and lawns throughout the southern United States and in many foreign countries. #UGAResearch #NiftyTifty #UGAGrass #CultivatingTheNextGeneration

I live in the country, where we have cows, horses, goats, chickens and various other farm animals. This is a tractor, it is used to grow food to feed these ani...mals. When you see a tractor approach with caution, they cost more than any car you will ever drive! The farmer driving it works 18 hours a day to feed theses animals and grow the grains, corn and veggies you eat everyday! Instead of complaining about how slow it goes, take a moment to thank God for him or her, say a prayer for their safety, ask God to send rain when they need it and that they get a fair price for their cattle or corn. Maybe you will start to appreciate the abundance of food our country has because of this farmer and his tractor. Slow down, enjoy...this is the country and this is a tractor. See more

Today USDA announced the Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) and Farm Service Agency (FSA) will be hosting a webinar for farmers, ranchers and other producers ...interested in applying for direct payments through the Coronavirus Food Assistance Program (CFAP) this Thursday, May 14, 2020, at 1 p.m. ET. This webinar is an opportunity for producers to learn about the general application process and required documentation prior to the official beginning of signup. Producers interested in participating may register in advance for webinar at: https://www.zoomgov.com//register/WN_SPWI7yOFSqaGG1JKzhEbjA. Please note that additional details of CFAP have yet to be released and will likely not be available prior to the webinar. NCBA anticipates the proposal should clear OMB by the end of the week, and hope to have additional information by early next week at the latest. That said, USDA is hosting this webinar to share what information is needed to apply for direct payments through CFAP, once the application period begins. Producers who are new to participating in FSA programs are especially encouraged to join the webinar.
