We are slowly getting a few reports of Cedar Waxwings in the area! (as pictured) It'd be uncommon to see one at your feeder as they prefer berries from trees and bushes BUT you could entice them to a bird bath! They've been known to bath in large groups which is such a special sight to see! Use your Customer Appreciation Coupon (2 posts down) on a new bath and invite a bigger variety of birds to your backyard!
We’re all spending a bit more time staying close to home and birding in our neighborhoods! Get to know your favorite backyard birds with the free Audubon Bird Guide app: audubon.org/app

Happy Election Day! Now for an even more DIFFICULT decision...if you could only pick ONE to stay and the other one had to go which one would you choose to stick around?? Northern Cardinal or Eastern Bluebird? As if 2020 hasn't been stressful enough.
Happy Halloween weekend everyone! Let's chat about our freaky, non-feathered, flighted friends! (say that 5xs fast) Bats! Almost 1,000 bat species can be found worldwide. Bats make up a quarter of all mammal species! They have the second highest number of species of all mammal families, second only to rodents! As the primary predators of night-flying insects, bats play a vital role in maintaining the balance of nature!
These Pine Siskins are absolutely devouring one of our large seed cylinders!! It's an irruption year so don't be surprised if you see this sight in your backyard soon!!
Have you ever wondered how chickadee flocks avoid traffic jams at your feeder? (Side note...it'd be easy to avoid a traffic jam with THAT food in your feeders, but the article is better than the bird food )
Happy National Pumpkin Day!! Here are a few totally bird-unrelated fun facts about this "special" day! Want to treat your birds in a cool, festive way like us???? Be sure to use our Fiery Feast to keep the squirrels away from your creative creations! Pumpkin Fun Facts: The largest pumpkin weighed 1,140 pounds The largest pumpkin pie was 5-feet in diameter and weighed 350 pounds... The largest pumpkin pie used 80 pounds of cooked pumpkin, 12-dozen eggs and 36 pounds of sugar The largest pumpkin pie took 6-hours to bake Pumpkins contain Vitamin A and potassium Pumpkins are 90% water See more
Titmice are fairly common at the feeders but did you know they have a special trick up their sleeve??? Tufted Titmice have a unique alarm call that seems to fade off into the distance, giving the impression that the bird is moving from one place to another! Birdwatchers and predators alike can be fooled into chasing this ghost call while the titmouse stays securely hidden out of sight. Sneaky!!!
Suet cylinders are a great, easy way to provide your birds tons of energy, fat, and protein. These foods come in all different types of flavors (including hot pepper)! Not to mention that the birds love them!
The weather is cooling off but believe it or not, some birds prefer the hottest days of the year over all others to warble: ow.ly/lD6o30pgh9i
We all prefer songbirds at the feeders but their is no denying that raptors are pretty amazing creatures! The Cooper's Hawk hunts by stealth, approaching its prey through dense cover and then pouncing with a rapid, powerful flight.
REMINDER! Keep your feeders fresh and full now so birds know that they can rely on YOU come winter when food sources are scarce!
