ZPC is hiring Resident Advocates for overnight (10 PM 7:30 AM) and weekend (Saturday 5 PM 10:30 PM and Sunday during the day) shifts. Our mission is to empower couples experiencing homelessness or financial vulnerability to achieve lasting self-sufficiency for themselves and their families. Weekend shifts are ideal for couples seeking an opportunity to work with a progressive nonprofit that emphasizes trauma-informed and person-centered care. Everyday, individuals, couples, and families experiencing homelessness call us seeking help. Usually the first person they reach is Tammy Patterson, Intake Coordinator. For callers that are not couples, she patiently assists them with service referrals. For couples, Tammy will walk them through the program, what they need for intake, and community partners that may be able to assist them. Because we are full, she will put them on a wait list. Some couples choose to wait it out with family or friends. Others will continue to live in their car or on the street. Some may choose referrals to separate men’s and women’s shelters. Many times, callers just want to know that someone cares. This is what Tammy does well. #weareZPC #better2gether

We need: women's pajamas (2 piece), bathrobes, women's pants, women’s long sleeve shirts/turtlenecks, and women’s camisoles. *Pants and shirts can be lightly worn clothing, but the pajamas, under shirts, or robes should be new.... We help to empower couples and families experiencing homelessness. Our goal is to support them in their efforts to become self-sufficient by assisting them in overcoming many barriers. Some barriers are personal, such as childhood trauma, lack of family support, and lack of life skills. Other barriers are systemic, such as lack of affordable housing and healthcare. Each couple has unique challenges requiring approaches to care that are person-centered, trauma-informed, and collaborative with community support partners. Big thanks to the Long family for bringing in lunch yesterday for our residents. Their daughter Sylvie took the time to decorate each lunch bag. The commitment of our volunteer partners to help provide nutritious meals to our residents truly makes a difference and enables our residents to actively focus on employment and housing. We cannot stress enough how important our volunteers are to the ZPC community. #better2gether

We meet our couples where they are and help them to transition to where they want to be. Everyone’s story is unique, but their goals are the same: to be treated with dignity, to become emotionally healthy and whole, and to become self-sufficient. We are here for them. #better2gether

For 36 years, we have focused on helping couples experiencing homelessness to transition to independence and stability. We started as a volunteer-based winter shelter. We then shifted to a program-based winter residential model to assist homeless couples with their relationships, employment, and stable housing. And now, we are making another shift. Not only are we providing transformative residential services, but we are also providing day services to meet the needs of couple...s and families struggling with the physical and emotional stress of financial vulnerability and rapid re-housing case management to assist couples and families with sustainable self-sufficiency. We are the only agency in the Atlanta metro that works intensively with couples and their families. Why, because we recognize that many individuals choose to go through life with someone who loves them and supports them through life's ups and downs. Our couples want to be #better2gether. It has been an amazing day today! We enrolled two wonderful couples who have been impacted by the COVID-19 economy and we received three sets of donations: new slippers from the Young Men’s Service League (thanks Mariann King for dropping them off), bread for days from Panera Bread, and clothes from young entrepreneurs who hosted a clothing drive for us (thanks Javiar Gordon and Cameron White). We are grateful for the ability to serve and for those who partner with us in this work.

What’s for Dinner? Dinner is important to our residents. It’s a time to connect, nourish the body, and decompress. Your wonderful meals mean the world to our couples. Your meals show them that people care, especially during these challenging times. Thank you to our generous meal volunteers! You are appreciated! We have reserved dates on our Meal Provider Calendar just for this purpose. If you are part of an organization or workplace and are looking for a way to contribute, please email [email protected] or give us a call at 404-872-2915 for an opportunity to provide a dinner meal to our 2020-2021 Residents. It is a Covid-19 safe opportunity with no-contact. All you have to do is prepare/provide a complete dinner meal to serve 30 people and drop it off at ZPC. We are excited to announce a grant award for a housing stability partnership with Partners for HOME and the Atlanta Continuum of Care to assist couples and their families experiencing homelessness. This partnership enables us to provide both onsite residential stability support for couples experiencing homelessness and mobile rapid rehousing and advocacy support for couples and families experiencing homelessness. #Wearecommitted to being a part of a compassionate community that works towards making homelessness rare and brief. Meet New ZPC Board Member, Norrene Duffy Norrene is the owner of Red Bridge Consulting, an information technology consulting company. She is a member of First Congregational Church United Church of Christ in downtown Atlanta and has witnessed firsthand the impact of homelessness on Atlanta’s citizens for 40 years. She has served on the board of First Church, served as superintendent of the Sunday School, and served on several committees of the church. Norrene became interested in the Zaban Paradies Center as a result of her lifelong commitment to helping individuals who are suffering from homelessness, joblessness, and hunger. She is grateful to Anthony Cochran for introducing her to ZPC and looks forward to the opportunity to serve.
