Today, marks a milestone for one of our longest-serving staff members. General Sales Manager, Randy Downing, celebrates 35 years in the local car business. Randy and his wife moved to Bainbridge in 1983 as their jobs at Martin Management carried them here. He started in June 1985 as a salesperson for Jesse Butler Chevrolet on Clay Street here in Bainbridge. There, he worked closely with Jesse to learn the ins and outs of the business. In 1991, local resident Don Kirksey a...cquired the Buick, GMC, and Pontiac franchises in West Bainbridge and he brought Randy on board the sales staff. In 1993, Don built the facility that exists today on Highway 84 East. Shortly thereafter, Don bought the Chevrolet and Oldsmobile franchises and relocated them to the new facility. In 2000, the dealership changed hands to Action as it remains today, where they continue to sell Buick, Chevrolet, and GMC automobiles. It is no doubt that Randy has seen the car business evolve tremendously over the last three and a half decades. If you ever sit and talk with him long enough, you will hear the story of the first vehicle he ever sold, a Chevrolet pickup that cost $10,500 loaded out. He can also tell you how many things can affect car sales like oil prices, terrorist attacks, labor union strikes, and now global pandemics. He has seen a lot in the industry through the years but one thing remains the same, people want to drive. Randy has made a lot of friends in the business and maintains contact with the two that have taught him so much. He and Jesse Butler both attend Bainbridge Church of God together and Don Kirksey has become an even closer friend than ever. Tomorrow, June 6, Randy will celebrate 44 years of marriage to his wife Rhonda. Together they have two sons, a daughter (in love), granddaughter, and grandson. Randy is affectionately known as Gree to the family. You can find them all on Sundays having family dinner together and they all bleed Alabama crimson red.
