As we have delivered tips this week in regards to Distracted Driving. We want to also share what the ( O.C.G.A. 40-6-241) Hands Free Law means. With the help of our community we will continue to express how important it is that all Drivers be focused on Driving, while operating a vehicle on the roadways of this State. Together we can make our roads safe for everyone.
Friday's Funny/Not Funny Being an alert driver includes watching out for others who might be distracted, including pedestrians. Stay Safe Acworth!
***PLEASE READ*** This morning we have received complaints regarding a phone scam. Criminals are calling victims, claiming to be a member of the Acworth Police Department and demanding money. They are using the names of officers who actually work for our agency. If you have received a call similar to this, please report it immediately. NEVER give out any personal information, including SSN, address, and date of birth. We will never call you on the phone and threaten your freedom. If you have any doubts about an unsolicited call, hang up, and call us directly @ 770-974-1232. Have a GREAT weekend!!!
Leaders from different walks within the community with a common goal, to Do What Is Right EveryDay! #acworthstrong #dowired
This morning the City of Acworth held its Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration. It started with a great Unity Walk followed by a great message and program from Mr. Earnest Davis and The Acworth Achievers! It was said that Greatness is measured by your ability to impact someone else’s life. The question asked was what are you doing for others? Let’s take the first steps in planting the right seeds today, for others tomorrow! Join us for a Virtual day of service and use this as a day on, not a day off. Share your Day of Services photos with #mlkdayofservice #acworthdayofservice
Here is another quick 2021 Crime Prevention Tip! This can be a quick home improvement project to help beef up security in your home. This simple tip helps make it harder for doors to be kicked in. Simply replace the short screws on your door’s strike plate with longer screws, such as 3 screws. This home security hack is not only cheap but also easy. Still have questions? There are lots of videos on YouTube to explain how to replace the short screws. Check out this news story by Local 12 in Ohio that shows the difference this quick change can make: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jOvjuRVZOQ4
The Acworth Police Department’s Miracle Tree is another way that we offer help to a family in need during the holiday season. The paper ornaments are items from the family’s wish list and are available for Officers and Members of the Community to select. These ornaments tend to go fast and if you are unable to select one, don’t get upset. Here’s what you do, just ask the nice ladies in our records department to put you in contact with Corporal Almon.
Please help us find this pup’s way back home: He was found at Logan Farm Park on 12-23-2020 around 2 pm. He was wearing a pink harness but he’s definitely a boy. Help him find his family so he can be home for Christmas. The nice people at Acworth Animal Hospital are taking care of me for a few days before I have to go to Cobb County Animal Shelter.
Join the City of Acworth as we honor the teachers of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Festivities will begin on January 18, 2021, at 9:15 a.m. with a unity walk from the Roberts School Community and Education Center to the Acworth Community Center followed by a celebration program with speaker Earnest Davis. This program will feature life’s most persistent and urgent question, What are you doing for others? There will be no in-person community service project this year. Instead, you are encouraged to spend the remainder of that day "as a day on, not a day off." Volunteer your time or resources to help improve your communities and share a photo or message with the hashtags #AcworthDayofService #MLKDayofService. To attend the MLK Day Program, RSVP to [email protected].

Do you have security cameras for your home? Have you thought about purchasing security cameras for your home but just haven’t got around to doing so? Do you have security cameras but haven’t explored all of its features? Here is another Crime Prevention Tip for 2021! Home security cameras are crime prevention for potential thieves and also aid law enforcement when investigating crimes. Many Suspects have been identified, and cases have been solved with the assistance of citizens providing video from their home security systems. Video doorbells and other security camera systems deter criminals from package theft and make burglars think twice about if anyone is home. Let's continue to work together and prevent crime in our beautiful city Acworth!
Now that we've received our gifts from our loved ones or maybe we just treated ourselves to something new! Did you know most of your big ticket items like Televisions, Firearms, Electronics and Lawn Equipment have Serial Numbers that are assigned to that specific item? Writing these serial numbers down along with the make/model, and keeping them in a safe place allows for a better chance of recovery in the unfortunate event of a theft. Typically criminals will seek these ite...ms out and attempt to sell them. Being able to provide officers with the Serial Numbers, make and models during the time of the report will give investigators a better chance of tracking your items, especially if they turn up in Pawn Shops. It also doesn't hurt to engrave items to help identify your property if it is a valuable without a serial number. If you don't want to engrave items, taking pictures of the items will work as well. Just another Crime Prevention Tip for 2021! See more

For the last 8 years the Acworth Police Department’s Christmas Shoppe has made a way for children and families in need within our community to have a Christmas experience. Every year it has grown because we’ve never been on this journey alone. The Acworth Community (from the Churches, Restaurants, Small Businesses, Big Box Stores and amazing Citizens) has played the biggest part of the Christmas Shoppe’s success! The Acworth Community’s heart for helping and giving is tremendously huge! This year’s shoppe was an absolute success. The gifts from this years shoppe blessed over 60 families and well over 125 children. We want to say Thank you to our Acworth Community and wish everyone a Happy Holidays!
