Atlanta Diabetes Associates 29.10.2020

Dear Patients, First and foremost, we want to assure you that we are doing everything possible to protect the health and safety of our patients, staff, and community during this most difficult time. The COVID-19 pandemic is a rapidly evolving national health emergency, and we are evaluating our approach on a week-to-week basis while remaining committed to our patients. Atlanta Diabetes has been closed to seeing patients in person, however, we have implemented telemedicine ser...vices for our patients. We ask patients with an existing appointment confirm and keep their appointment with your scheduled provider. The practice is using Zoom (www.Zoom.US) for HIPAA compliant telemedicine visits, as it allows secure audio and video communication on a variety of devices. At a patient’s request, visits can also take place through Facetime on Apple devices. Furthermore, we will gladly assist patients with these technologies as needed. On the morning of your appointment, patients choosing to utilize Zoom will receive an email invitation from [email protected]. The email will include all needed information, including a unique Meeting ID and password to protect privacy. To simplify check-in, we suggest that patients install the Zoom Cloud Meeting software before their appointment. Please note that the patient must be available to speak with the provider during the entirety of their appointment. Medicare and private insurance companies have expanded their coverage for telemedicine services, and the practice is actively monitoring these changes. We are making every attempt to provide services that are covered by insurance; however, patients with concerns should contact their insurance company directly. Atlanta Diabetes Associates urges patients to schedule telemedicine visits for addressing complex medical questions or making changes to their care plan. Our schedulers stand ready to arrange a quick and comprehensive telemedicine visit with our doctors, nurse practitioners, and physician’s assistants. We recognize that this is a time filled with uncertainties, and we will continue our commitment to providing the services on which our patients depend. During this time, we request that patients communicate with the practice using Piedmont’s MyChart patient portal as it ensures the quickest response. For patients preferring to contact the practice by phone, please call Atlanta Diabetes Associate’s main number at 404-355-4393. Due to the high call volume, the staff’s time on each call is limited. Please allow our practice to preserve phone calls for scheduling, billing, urgent medical needs, urgent prescription refills, and patients unable to use the MyChart patient portal. The most up-to-date information from Atlanta Diabetes Associates will be available on our website, https://atlantadiabetes.com. For information specific to the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic, the practice urges patients to monitor the CDC website, https://www.cdc.gov.

For the health and safety of our patients, their family members, and our staff, Atlanta Diabetes Associates will be closed for in-person visits through April 3, 2020. Patients scheduled for visits on those days will be contacted and given the option to switch to a telemedicine visit or reschedule. The practice will determine on Friday, April 3, the safest and most effective way to proceed further. Atlanta Diabetes Associates is determined to continue providing care to our pat...ients and has deployed telemedicine services utilizing the Zoom for Healthcare platform; this allows for audio and video communications on a range of devices. We would like to encourage this option for all patients during the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Pandemic, and we will have staff available to assist as needed. We encourage patients to utilize the Piedmont MyChart patient portal for contacting our office during this time. Patients unable to contact us through the patient portal can still contact us by phone during regular business hours. For information specific to the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Pandemic, we encourage our patients to monitor the Center for Disease Control’s website at https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-nCoV/index.html While Atlanta Diabetes Associates is not able to screen patients or recommend screening for patients, we understand that some of our patients may feel that they need screening. This link is one potential resource to start that process. At this point, there is no expectation that we will begin screening at our office or be able to refer patients for screening. https://www.augustahealth.org/ex/covid-19-virtual-screening JDRF has published information for patients with Type 1 Diabetes, this information is available at: https://www.jdrf.org//answering-your-questions-coronavirus/
