Boundaries are guidelines that we create for ourselves that identify reasonable, safe and permissible ways for other people to behave towards us. Boundaries help to define our sense of self by separating our own needs, thoughts and feelings from those of others. With boundaries, we learn to respond in healthier ways when others cross our guidelines. Every relationship needs healthy boundaries. What are some healthy boundaries that you have? #atlantafamilycounseling #counseling #mentalhealth #lawrenceville #boundaries #relationships #therapy #cbt

We all experience stress from time to time. It’s not always negative to experience stress, but long-term or chronic stress can lead to other issues. According to the National Institute of Mental Health, the body never really receives a clear signal to return to typical functioning when we are experiencing chronic stress. This can then affect our immune, digestive, cardiovascular, sleep and reproductive systems as well as mental health issues, like anxiety and depression. It’s important to take time to release the stress we may hold. By managing our stress, we may be able to reduce the risk of negative health effects as well. #atlantafamilycounseling #heath #mentalhealth #counseling #stress #chronicstress #therapy #lawrenceville

Anxiety tends to lock up the brain, making school hard for anxious kids. Although school anxiety is not an official diagnosis, the classroom can often become a place where anxiety levels increase for many students. Common symptoms of school related anxiety include increased defiance or irritability, disturbances in sleep, loss of appetite, lack of concentration, less energy, sadness, crying and even physical symptoms.... Some students may find themselves not completing homework, avoiding socializing or group work, having trouble answering questions in class or taking frequent trips to the nurse’s office. There are many different reasons for anxiety to increase at school, including pressure to perform well, changes in environment, excessive self-consciousness and worry about separation from family. It’s important to talk to your student about how they’re really feeling about school and to provide the right support for their health and well-being. #atlantafamilycounseling #therapy #anxiety #schoolanxiety #mentalhealth #lawrenceville
