Today is my birthday {the big 4-0} and the big question around here is always What kind of cake will you have? So, help me decide! Jimmy also asked and I’m just not sure. Help me decide. Happy new year! I have been trying to think about what to write about our year. You know the usual. It’s been a tough year on all sides, uncomfortable, scary, unpredictable, unprecedented (I’m tired of hearing this word), uncertain, opinions and feelings on high alert and not hidden or quiet, and probably a lot more. BUT! We are still standing, still open, still have all of our employees, and still moving forward. Thanks be to God and His faithfulness. If things were up to... Jimmy and me, I doubt we would be. We are blown away at the goodness of God, but should we be? He is good all the time, even when we do not see it. I’m typing this while Jimmy and I are on a mini getaway to reconnect and refresh and yes, Jimmy brought work. It’s ok, because it is so neat to see on paper how God has kept us going. The dips, the peaks, and everything in between show His faithfulness. It also shows how great you, our customers and friends are. Thank you to those who have stuck with us and continued to shop local because you believe in us and all of the other small businesses. We can not do this without your continued support. All of us at Cole’s Cakery are thankful for all of you! When i started thinking about all of the things I’m thankful for, I was overwhelmed with emotion. Just two years ago, we were very new and hadn’t met many of you. Now, you are all friends and I’m thankful for that. Last week when we had the fridge mishap, so many of you called or came by just to check on us and make sure we were ok. I’m thankful for that. That week was a tough one on several levels. It was a but God ...week where He was the amazing Peace in the midst of uncertainty. Several people asked how I was, and I could say I’m ok only because of Jesus. I am so thankful for my Savior. Jimmy is such a hard worker and a giver. He sacrifices time and many a night’s sleep to bake and make and create for others. He takes pride in his work and loves to see people happy with their cakes and goodies. I’m really thankful for him. And our team. Oh gracious. We couldn’t do any of it without them. We have had some come and go, and I cherish each one of them. They make us better people. I was telling a new employee just last week how I want to have a family atmosphere at the Cakery. We love and encourage one another and pick and kid and laugh and sometimes there are tears. Always singing, sometimes dancing in the kitchen. We have been through some really tough stuff and some really amazing stuff together. I am so thankful for them. This Thanksgiving, in the midst of continued craziness, find at least one thing to be thankful for. There is ALWAYS something to be thankful for. Happiest Thanksgiving to you and yours.

Good morning. We had a refrigerator issue sometime in the night and everything is lost, including the 80 pounds of chicken Jimmy cooked yesterday for chicken salads. Therefore, there will be no chicken salad today or until we have a chance to buy and cook more. Thanks for understanding. Good news though! The icing isn’t in that fridge, so we will have cupcakes and other treats. But, God is still so so good even when things seem to go wacko.

By this point in the school year, we would have hosted a couple of field trips to the Cakery by various school groups. Thanks to Covid, it’s quiet on that end. But yesterday I videoed a virtual field trip for our friend Jamie, who teaches careers at Eighth Street Middle School. It was a fun way to share about our business and all of the fun things we get to do. Today we are thankful for technology.
