Both our park and its surrounding neighborhoods reflect a complex history that includes, among other things, the establishment and displacement of local communi...ties of color. This important legacy is highlighted by the Early Edgewood-Candler Park BiRacial History Project. As a product of this fantastic effort, Hooper Avenue NE in Candler Park now boasts a brand new marker describing Hooper’s long history in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries as a thriving residential enclave for African American families.
