COVID update as of 12/15. This data is only active COVID-19 cases and quarantines based on DPH guidelines. This does not reflect total student or staff absences due to cold, flu or other illnesses.
COVID numbers are rising across NE Georgia. We have had several new cases this week and wanted to give our community an update. We continue to follow all guidelines put in place by the Georgia Department of Education and the Department of Public Health. We encourage you to wear a mask, use social distancing when possible, and wash your hands frequently.
Dawson County Schools will end the 2020-21 fall semester for students on 12/18 making room for two professional learning days for staff on 12/21-22. Superintendent Gibbs made the change after consulting with the BOE, district staff, and school leaders. With students transitioning from virtual to in-person instruction, more time is needed to prepare for the new semester. This change will not modify any other dates on the approved 2020-21 school calendar. The district remains committed to serving our students, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back for the second semester on 1/5/21. *Students that have opted for virtual learning for the spring semester will still be virtual.

11/3 COVID-19 Update for Dawson County Schools...
All Dawson County schools will be open on Monday, November 2. If your child is unable to attend due to a power outage at home, please note that their absence will be excused.
Dawson County Schools will be closed Friday, October 30, 2020. We currently have 8,000 homes and the majority of our schools without power. Decisions about after school events will be made no later than noon tomorrow. All 12 month employees should communicate with their direct supervisors in the morning for direction.
All after school activities for 10/29 have been canceled. We currently have 5 of 7 schools with no electricity. Power companies are working in the area at this time. A decision concerning school for 10/30 will be made by 5:00pm.
The National Weather Service has placed Dawson County under a Tropical Storm Warning for the next 36 hours. We are expecting 2-4" (up to 6") of additional rainfall and 20-40mph sustained winds (40-60mph gusts) between 3am and noon tomorrow. We are very concerned about wide-spread power outages and downed trees throughout our county. These conditions will make morning transportation unsafe for both students and staff. Dawson County Schools will be closed for students and st...aff on Thursday, October 29, 2020. Decisions about after school activities will be made by noon. Twelve month employees should communicate with supervisors in the morning for direction. As always, the safety of our students and staff are our top priority.
