Dear Emory DPT Community, We awoke this morning with saddened hearts as we learned about the tragic events that happened in our city yesterday evening. Eight people were killed at 3 separate Atlanta-area spas, six of who were women of Asian descent. Our hearts go out to the families of the individuals who lost their lives. We acknowledge how this act of violence has compounded the fear that has been mounting within the Asian community over the past year given the increase in... discrimination Asian individuals have experienced with respect to the pandemic. We recognize and condemn such discriminatory acts, both on a macro and microaggression level. According to Stop AAPI Hate, a coalition created to address anti-Asian hate amidst the pandemic, there have been 3,795 anti-Asian hate incidents nationwide since March of 2020, and that number includes only incidents that have been reported. As a community, we must acknowledge the severity of this issue and stand against these heinous acts that continue to plague our country and our city. Emory DPT reiterates that there is zero tolerance within our community for any act of hate toward any racial or ethnic group. It is critical that we recognize that both our actions and our words matter. Report incidents of hate, violence, harassment, discrimination, shunning, and child bullying against Asian-American and Pacific Islanders through: stopaapihate.org Continue to be advocates for kindness and respect within our community. Love will overcome hate.
