JoAnne Raatz builds legacy at GC by supporting nursing simulation lab. She found that passion in nursing while volunteering with patients at Grady Hospital in Atlanta. Raatz obtained a Bachelors degree in nursing from GA State University and Masters of Science in Nursing Education from GC. Raatz has been responsible not only for teaching courses such as Foundations of Nursing Practice, but also pioneering the use of the Nursing Simulation Lab that provides students with the o...pportunity to conduct high fidelity simulations. "My goal is to prepare students for the real world and know some of the difficulties they're going to encounter and be prepared for them." Raatz recently retired from GC in May 2020. Raatz has bequeathed a portion of GC life insurance to fund ongoing operational expenses of the Nursing Skills and Simulation Lab. Her gift to the Lab will be part of her legacy at GC. "I still want to be part of the school," Raatz said, "It such a wonderful community of people and I'm just so grateful." See more
Former GC Professor Helps Nurses with Scholarship. For more than 28 years, Jeanne Sewell did what she loved most - serving as a nurse and teaching others how to be a nurse. "You can be all that you want to be in Nursing!" said Jeanne. She said that she always wanted to be a nurse since she could walk! The most important aspect of Nursing is helping people. "Grades don't define you. It's your dream. It's your passion. You can do anything you want to do." said Jeanne. She wanted to make sure her scholarship helps students do just that. Jeanne and her husband, Wayne, established the Jeanne Penny Sewell Endowed Nursing Scholarship for GC nursing students to achieve the academic success they desire.

Each semester, the Georgia College Elevator Pitch Competition puts close to 500 undergraduate College of Business students in front of recruiters, hiring managers, and industry professionals to pitch themselves in a minute. The goal is to not only be named a finalist but to land an interview with one of the companies. The 2020 global pandemic has stretched sponsor resources. We need your support to help sustain a critical program for student success after graduation. The G...C culture of philanthropy is so important for this project. Every single donation helps us reach our $6,000 goal--$5, $25, $50, or more. Will you donate today to help a new generation of Bobcats master a lifetime tool? Paul Guy Accettura’s family has a passion for helping others through the arts at Georgia College. His mother, Mabel Mabs, put others first by sacrificing her own needs. She was a strong advocate of education and the arts, so much so, that Paul established the Mrs. Mabel Accettura Endowed Theatre Scholarship for students enrolled in the Georgia College Theatre and Dance Department. #ThrowbackThursday

We often hear of alumni thriving and succeeding in their careers and it warms our hearts. But when we hear that one of our own is now stepping beyond career success to invest their time in the program that helped connect their GC student experience to their future? Then we get really excited. It is transformative to see an alumna find her place in a male dominated technology field and then turn around so quickly to help those young women coming behind her. Her mentorship ...and experience will be invaluable to another generation of IT skilled women. Kudos to all our young alumni who seek to expand the GC culture of philanthropy to the world around them. Dr. Helen Hill was a powerful ally for students here at Georgia College. She helped forge relationships that served to protect the emotional health of students, she opened the door to all students, she was an advisor, she was an advocate, and she fought to secure resources for students. The Dr. Helen Hill Annual Scholarship was established to honor the legacy she left while providing much needed financial resources for male African American students. Check out GC alumna and member of the newly established Women’s Giving Circle, Kelly Mainor! "I am excited and honored as a philanthropist, volunteer, and leader in my industry to support the Women's Giving Circle at Georgia College. Please consider joining me in supporting our future women leaders who are currently discovering their passions and place in this world at our alma mater." In the month of August, our amazing group of new President’s Society members supported four different funds and gave to five different scholarships on campus. Some of these funds were made to areas specifically on campus such as the theatre department, while others gave to the Heritage Fund which provides financial support for the areas of greatest need each year. We are so grateful for the generosity of all of our donors and their continued support of Georgia College! For more information on the Foundation and ways to support GC on our path to preeminence, please visit our website: gcsu.edu/foundation
