The AJC and WSBTV featured Red Light Cafe and the Gordon Vernick quartet yesterday on their story of easing restrictions during this pandemic and what it means for businesses. During the pandemic, the Red Light Cafe and Gordon Vernick bought back live music in July 2020. Red Light Cafe has opened with Gordon Vernick's quartet to a room of 40 socially distanced patrons every Wednesday. The band members are either vaccinated or masked and usually feature familiar faces from the... School of Music jazz faculty, students, and alumni. With restrictions easing, Red Light Cafe will take it slowly and continue to keep its COVID guidelines in place. https://www.ajc.com//what-will/BQATGPAZAVEP5JB5VVDNHOKMC4/ https://www.wsbtv.com//right-n/5VNXSZPFKVFVTBBX6IOPZZQMBI/ #gsumusic #gsujazz #redlightcafeatl #gordonvernick #kevinbales #geoffhaydon #robertboone #ritagraham

Hooray for another addition to our spotlight series! We’re so excited to introduce you all to another wonderful member of our graduate conducting studio, Nathan... Trivers! Nathan has been a lifelong musician, having spent many years studying piano, guitar, composition, and voice. In 2018, Nathan graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Composition as well as a Certificate in Music Business. He is now pursuing an MM in choral Conducting here at GSU! As an instructor and leader, Nathan has had the pleasure of Music Directing at multiple Georgia churches, teaching privately at various music studios around Atlanta, and Music Directing for musicals across the southeast. Of his musicals directed, his absolute favorite experience was conducting and playing for an all-female production of 1776 in North Carolina. As a pianist, Nathan loves to perform in all settings. One standout experience for Nathan was when he was invited as a guest lecturer to Colby College to perform and present on Morton Feldman’s Palais de Mari, a mystical twenty-five minute piano piece requiring constant focus and counting. Nathan has also sung in choirs since high school, and recently performed in the southeastern premiere of Craig Hella Johnson’s oratorio Considering Matthew Shepard with the UGA Hodgson Singers in 2017. As a composer, Nathan enjoys writing and arranging for all manner of instruments. He has received commissions and awards for his music along with performances at notable events such as the Hodgson School of Music’s 2018 Commencement Ceremony. He especially enjoys composing for the piano and voice, and his proudest composition is a fifteen-minute song cycle for soprano and piano entitled Of Longing. Anyone who knows Nathan will agree that he exudes joy at all times, and is a true gem of a human. When asked about pursuing music, Nathan simply said that he chose to make music his vocation because his lifelong aim is to teach people to recognize, appreciate, and strive for beauty. Friends, the world needs more people like our Nathan. Show him some love! #GSUChoirs
