A friend sent me this tattoo and my first thought was why would someone get a broken life line tattooed on their hand? My gut reaction being oof. Think of the lines on hands like roads. A broken life like represents a detour. Or if you’re into Tarot, it’s a Tower card moment. Any way you look at it, it marks an unexpected event or circumstance, or a transition. How have we become hardwired to be afraid of change? Change can be beautiful. It brings about the opportunity to... create something different and better. It’s those scary pivotal moments in life where we find out what we really want and what we actually need. Change can be shown in different ways on the hand. In my case, I’ve experienced plenty of change, but instead of having a life line broken into a million pieces, I have multiple life lines. Sometimes it’s shown on other lines, or, not at all, if you’re fearless. This is where the magic happens. I felt called to post a photo of my bedroom. It’s my escape, my haven, my happy place. The unicorn tapestry hung above my daughters’ bed until recently, when I realized I bought it for myself those 5 years ago. (I replaced the empty spot on her wall with a tapestry of the floating lights from the Disney version of Rapunzel). A handful of my pups ashes are in the mala hanging below a small altar to myself. My tarot cards are shelved above whe...re I rest my head. The gravity blanket was my birthday gift this year from my mom and is my most prized and useful possession. I have a star projector so I can turn my ceiling into a night sky. And, of course, there’s Falkor, my Siamese mutt cat, my magic man, chilling in his spot in front of a window, which is always cracked open for fresh air. My favorite books are placed within arms reach. The rest of my bedroom is full of art from my friends. It’s not fancy, but it’s mine. Do you have a magical bedroom? My sweet Despacita, the 1955 Dalton camper, has been sitting pretty in my backyard during the pandemic. She hasn’t gotten much use since business has shifted to the virtual space. Happy Pub Day to @ourtarot! Though I have never met her in person, Sarah Shipman and I share an agent, publisher, and editor, so I checked on her during her writing and production process to give her support. She worked SO DAMN HARD on this deck. It is fueled by extensive research and gorgeous collage work. I’m sooo proud to see her work hit the mainstream. This is a deep deck, y’all. This years mantra is IT’S OK TO NOT BE OK. A friend messaged me today and asked How are you?. I’m good!, I replied and lied. She then followed up with her real ass problems allowing me to do the same. I felt SUCH a relief to let it out. Let’s stop pretending to be good. That only makes our mommas happy.
