How many remember when our community didn't have an animal shelter? No animal control, no rescues or spay/neuter assistance. We remember the hard work and tears... it took to get where we are today. This dog ran up and down Reed Creek Hwy. for weeks. She wouldn't come to anyone or go in a trap but Hart County Sheriff's Office CID animal control didn't give up until he got her. She was taken to Northeast Georgia Animal Shelter. The shelter that years ago had a high euthanasian rate can now boost an over 90% plus save rate. This didn't happen magically its due to a passionate director and staff along with rescues dedicated to saving lives. When no one came to claim the dog she was taken to Lake Hartwell Veterinary Clinic where the rescue driven staff cared for the emotionally crippled dog. Next our rescue friendly Lavonia Pet Salon removed the painful matts and washed the stink of where she had been away. While Mila began to trust a network of people advocated for her. Dr. Allen Stewart Sr., pastor at Hartwell United Methodist Church and his wife Tracy learned of the dog so many had seen roaming and reached out to meet her. Mila now has the family we prayed for. Thanks to the support of Max and Neo Mila went to her new home with a safe, quality leash and collar as well as a going home blanket that smells familiar and will bring her comfort. This is the efforts put into every rescue, every day. Thank you all who share our mission to save the lives of shelter cats and dogs from our community. See more
