Friday, March 26th During afternoon bus routes, district officials responded to a call from one of the bus drivers reporting an issue with her bus. The bus driver was able to get all students safely evacuated off the bus before a fire began. Immediately, the Fire Department was on the scene along with other EMA personnel, officers from the police department, and other safety volunteers. These men and women secured the area and put the fire out. In addition, district and schoo...l officials arrived and helped make sure students were safe and organized a plan to get students home safely. JDCSS would like to take this moment to say thank you to the MANY community volunteers and Emergency Responders who quickly organized and implemented a plan that assured the safety of our staff and students. We also would like to say thank you to our transportation department and their diligence in practicing evacuation drills which led to all students getting off the bus safely. Also, thank you to the teachers and other school/district staff who assisted today. Lastly, we would like to say a special thank you to the students riding the bus. Without panicking, they assisted each other in an orderly response to a critical situation. We are blessed and thankful that no students or staff were injuried and this is a testament to the people of the JD community. Our Transportation Department has already begun the process of conducting an investigation of the incident. Again, thank you for all who assisted this afternoon. You are ALL hero’s!
