Please drive slow through our neighborhoods and watch for kids out Trick or Treating.

FTO Jackson was fortunate enough to get to speak to some of our local kids at the Boys and Girls Club of Jackson County GA Trunk or Treat event today. The kids asked him if he had a K-9 they could see. He unfortunately didn’t, but he made a quick call to Deputy Cochran with Jackson County Sheriff's Office to see if he could swing by. Deputy Cochran came right over and brought K-9 Tess with him to show the kids. We’re so glad we have these opportunities to work together to brighten the day for our local youth.

10/28/2020 5 PM Update: Hurricane #Zeta is a strong category 2 and is very near landfall on the southwest Louisiana coast. A Tropical Storm Warning and a Fla...sh Flood Watch remain in effect for north and portions of central Georgia. Sustained winds of 25-40 mph with peak wind gusts of up to 45-70 mph are anticipated starting late tonight and through tomorrow. With already saturated soils, trees and powerlines will be brought down, and flash flooding will be a concern where heavier rain occurs. #gawx See more

October 24th was the DEA's National Prescription Drug Take Back Day. The National Prescription Drug Take Back Day aims to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposing of prescription drugs, while also educating the general public about the potential for abuse of medications. Your Jefferson Police Department is an authorized collection agency, and we have a dropbox in our main office for the public to dispose of unwanted pharmaceuticals. Stop by during normal office hours if you need to dispose of prescription drugs. We turned in 118 pounds of prescription drugs to the DEA on October 24th.

Chief Wirthman is the Georgia Co-chair of Fight Crime: Invest in Kids. He, the City of Jefferson, and other members will join the Afterschool Alliance and other program participants today in bringing awareness to the importance of quality afterschool programs. Especially now, with school schedules in flux and many children in need of positive mentorship, nutritious meals, and a safe place to go, it is great to see that afterschool programs have stepped up to provide these things to kids.
