For any aspiring beekeepers out there, the North East Georgia Mountain Beekeepers Assocation is sponsoring a hands-on course on the craft of beekeeping this Saturday (3/17/12). It's a one-day, 2 session program. The AM session begins at 8:30am at the Ruby Fulbright Aquatic Center in Clarkesville and covers equipment needed to start; honeybee biology; pest and disease management; honey production and hive products. The PM session will continue at the bee yard of Carl Webb where they'll review hive manipulation, spring management, queen rearing, honey harvesting and more. Registration's limited and includes one year membership in the local beekeeping club, First Lessons in Beekeeping book, and lunch.
