The Violence Against Women Act outlines how landlords in the U.S. may treat survivors of past or ongoing domestic violence. Join us and Atlanta Volunteer Lawyers Foundation live on Thursday at 6pm for a conversation on Housing, Eviction, and Domestic Violence.
Last week we put out a call to help 7 mothers moving from our shelter into their own safe and stable housing. Many of you answered that call and for that we say: Thank You. We are still in need of several housing supplies to help ease their transition. Will you help them today? Visit our registry today. Every item donated goes directly to a survivor in need. https://smile.amazon.com/wedding/share/PADV

The final 3 easy ways to help end domestic violence are: 10. Volunteer. Even during the pandemic there are still many ways to volunteer. Organize a diaper drive, deliver food to the shelters, or DM us for more ideas or to contact our volunteer coordinator. 11. Donate. Your contributions can save a life. Visit our website to donate: www.padv.org/donate... 12. Practice self-care. Helping others can be very rewarding, but don’t forget to care for yourself as well. Share and have a conversation. Together we can end domestic violence. #Easy3ToEndDV #DVAM #DomesticViolenceAwarenessMonth #DVAM2020
Every year during Domestic Violence Awareness Month, PADV hosts its Candlelight Vigil to commemorate the Georgians who lost their lives in the past year due to domestic violence. The Candlelight Vigil is a time of sadness, mourning, celebration, and hope. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this is the first time the Candlelight Vigil will be held virtually. While we can't be together to light each candle, please watch the video to see the names of the Georgians who lost their lives in the past year and to hear from Melody, a courageous survivor of domestic violence. It is not our intention to leave any victims out, but we recognize this list may be incomplete. Although we may never know every name, we come together to mourn all the lives lost to domestic violence. #DVAM #DVAM2020 #DomesticViolenceAwarenessMonth
Today’s 3 easy ways to help end domestic violence are: 7. Become an advocate against domestic violence. Learn about the issues up for a vote at the next General Assembly and be ready to contact your representative. 8. Model healthy relationships for young people. Preventing domestic violence starts now and it starts with young people. Helping to model and highlight healthy relationships is part of ending it, and it starts with us!... 9. Like and share our content. The easiest way to let others know you are not indifferent to domestic violence is to share our content with others. Share and have a conversation. Together we can end domestic violence. #Easy3ToEndDV #DVAM #DomesticViolenceAwarenessMonth #DVAM2020
Today’s 3 easy ways to help end domestic violence are: 4. Ask them what you can do to help. It is not about our own goals, but what the survivor needs. Support them on their journey to safety. 5. Provide them with PADV’s hotline number (404-873-1766). Stay with them as they call the hotline, support them through it.... 6. Learn more about the issue. It’s ok to say: I don’t know, let’s find out together. Share and have a conversation. Together we can end domestic violence. #Easy3ToEndDV #DVAM #DomesticViolenceAwarenessMonth #DVAM2020
Today’s 3 easy ways to help end domestic violence are: 1. Listen without judgment. When someone we care about discloses abuse, we may become angry, frustrated, or may want to shift into action. Still, we must first listen and encourage them to tell their story without interruption or judgment. 2. Believe survivors. Instead of questioning how they reacted or didn’t react, believing survivors is one of the most critical steps to encourage them to get help.... 3. Validate their experiences. When you finally do say something, let it be Nobody deserves to be treated that way, no matter what. Read, share with your friends, and talk your family. It is so much easier to intervene if you don’t have to do it alone. Together we can end domestic violence. #Easy3ToEndDV #DVAM #DomesticViolenceAwarenessMonth #DVAM2020
Starting tomorrow we will highlight 3 easy ways you can join our mission to end domestic violence and support survivors of domestic violence. These are meant to help educate the community on how to safely support and intervene when they see signs of domestic violence. Read them, share them with your friends, and talk about them with your family. Together we can end domestic violence. #Easy3ToEndDV #DVAM #DomesticViolenceAwarenessMonth #DVAM2020
Great article from the Clarion Ledger about why many survivors of intimate partner violence stay in abusive relationships. It is important to note that these factors help explain the cycle of intimate partner violence, problems can be compounded for marginalized victims, such as women of color and other groups who face issues that may further complicate their quest for safety. #DVAM #DVAM2020 #DomesticViolenceAwarenessMonth https://www.clarionledger.com//domestic-violen/3646200001/
