MYTH"S and TRUTHS ABOUT TANNING!!! I was devastated when I learned in school that tanned skin is nothing but a scar!!!! YIKES!!! My generation especially loved the looks of tanning. We thought we only needed sunscreen to prevent sunburn!!! Little or no info as to the real reasonAGING!!! Baby oil and iodine did little to protect us from the burning or the aging rays!!! SO I AM REMINDING YOU NOW!!! WEAR SUNSCREEN!!! STAY OUT OF TANNING BEDS!!!... Myth: Getting a base tan prevents burning before going to beach. Truth: Any tan is a scar, there is no such thing as a healthy or protective tan. Any change in pigmentation is a sign of skin damage. Myth: All sun damage occurs before 18 years of age. Truth: Sun damage never ceases to occur throughout life. However, recent studies suggest that less than 50%of sun damage happens before the 20th year. It is never too late to protect your skin. Myth: Indoor tanning is safe, Truth: The argument that tanning beds do not cause skin mutations leading to cancerous lesions is false. UVA rays found in indoor tanning methods lead to deeper, invasive skin damage. A sun burn is not needed to create a deathly environment for skin cells.
