I urge you to read the article by Maureen Downey before you vote. Mrs. Downey writes the Get Schooled Blog for the AJC. Cherokee County School District has come... a long way in the last 20 years since the district was placed on probation for accreditation for the actions of one rogue school board member. Moxley interfered with day-to-day operations, which is an ethics violation for a member of the school board. GSBA clearly outlines the role of a school board member. When a rogue school board member steps outside of his/her role, it's the students who suffer the most along with their parents and every property owner in the county. Ten years ago, Kelly Marlow, another rogue member of the School Board, again put our accreditation in jeopardy. I was on the board at that time, she turned our school board meetings into a 3-ring circus, just as the candidates of the 4CanDoMore group and their supporters have done recently. It's time to return to our meetings to concentrate on teaching and learning and what's best for our students! It is unfortunate that misguided people or those with an agenda disseminate false information to achieve their personal goals. As a member of the Cherokee Count...y School Board, I would like to set the record straight. Parents are the final decision maker for THEIR children at CCSD! However; no one has the right to make decisions for other parents' children.

Letter to the editor from my friend and mentor, Former BOE Chairman, Janet Read Welsh. There is much on the line in this election! Voting for a member of the... school board is an important decision. Deciding who to vote for may be confusing, especially with of all the misinformation disseminated by some candidates and their supporters. COGNIA (World-Wide Accreditation Agency) just gave a glowing evaluation to CCDS. Do you think it would have been possible if the school district and the members of the school board weren't doing a great job? Fact - A member of the school board can lose the accreditation for the district. Nearly 20 years ago our school district was put on probation because one school board member acted outside the required ethics code. We came close to repeating that about 8 years ago. In 2008 Clayton County lost their accreditation. The governor had to remove 4 school board members.

Kudos to Oak Grove ES STEAM Academy and to CCSD! I am proud to serve the children, their parents, and their teachers on the school board. CCSD continues to improve and expand education opportunities so that every child succeeds in their future careers.
