We talk about "the light" in yoga alot. If I'm honesty, sometimes this bothers me... Particularly because we live in a world that values lighter skin, lighter existences more than dark and have a tendency to avoid, push down, or gloss over the more shadowy experiences in life . these overused words, "The light..." . Words matter... . And when we repeat these words without really diving into what "the light" is...we can do more harm than good . And yet - don't we feel a glow at the end of our practice? . I know I do . There hasn't been a single time in my 21 years of yoga that I went to my mat and didn't feel a pulsating, effervescent connection to the collection conscious and Source Energy even when I sat on the cusp of depression, grief, pain and failure , In this picture - Alyx is glowing... her light radiates outward . And this is why we fall in love with yoga and what, we as teachers, hope to share with future students . But it requires that we truly investigate our words, concepts that have become generic and overused (like "the light in me") and dig into the full spectrum of yoga philosophy .
