Imagine having no place to call home, especially with winter coming. For those who are homeless, their harsh reality is even harsher this year. This is Homeless Awareness Week, bringing attention to the needs of those seeking shelter and hope. Our partner The Samaritan Inn offers more than just a bed. They give help and resources to willing people seeking dignity and independence through their comprehensive program teaching self-sufficiency and life skills. Because our veterans mean so much to us, SRS’s Raise the Roof Foundation is partnering with Habitat for Humanity and donating roofs for veterans in each of our regions. Our first roof under this new program was completed in Colorado Springs for Larry, a Vietnam era Army veteran, and his wife. SRS’s local branch American Roofing Supply donated the roofing materials to help make their home safe and secure. More veteran roof donations are underway. Food insecurity is a real concern for many families, especially in 2020. The Community Food Pantry of McKinney is a nonprofit outreach program that addresses this critical problem by providing food to families who are in crisis.
