Mobility Tools: Foam Roller- The foam roller is the most common mobility tool. It is great for creating large, dispersed pressures over multiple muscle groups. It’s comparable to massaging with a palm or foot in that it has a large surface area for rolling out muscle tissues. ... If you’re new to mobility work, a foam roller is probably your best bet. You can get a soft foam roller which is typically white, and a firm roller, which is typically black. In order to effect real change in your tissues, you need to create more pressure and shear than most conventional foam rollers can offer. If you stop feeling change or the foam roller doesn’t provide the necessary pressure, consider upgrading to a harder tool.
