Happy Thanksgiving! Now more than ever, we are so thankful for our awesome patients, rockstar doctors, and hard-working staff! Whether you're running to the table or running outside, we hope everyone has a safe and special time with their loved ones today. We will be out of the office both today and tomorrow to give our staff some well-deserved time off. We will be back in all offices and seeing patients on Monday morning, 11/30.

Why have an ordinary cast when you have your own canvas? This seriously takes signing your cast to the next level. Even more impressive? The patient did this on himself!

September 29th is World Heart Day. So many activities and habits that keep our skeletal system healthy can directly benefit our cardiac health too! Exercise, healthy eating habits, and smoking cessation all go hand in hand with a strong heart and strong bones. What small changes can you make to improve or maintain your overall wellness?

No fasting- patients can eat and drink before surgery No side effects from general anesthesia Many patients return to work the same or next day Ask questions during surgery and have a better understanding of your experience If you're experiencing hand or wrist pain, get scheduled today with our fellowship-trained hand specialist and find out if WALANT surgery may be an option for you. Today is Global Running Day! Running can not only significantly improve cardiovascular health, but also has well-documented benefits for our body's musculoskeletal system (AKA: the stuff us orthos love!). While we see plenty of running injuries, our main goal is for our patients to prevent them. Injuries affect runners of all ages and experience levels but are especially common when beginning a program or increasing mileage too quickly. Luckily, many injuries can be easily prevented with proper footwear, stretching, and strengthening. Taking just a few preventative measures can vastly improve your body's performance! Check out this article by Runner's World on more easy ways to prevent common injuries: https://www.runnersworld.com//how-to-prevent-common-runni/

How’s this for a #throwbackthursday? Spring cleaning around the office uncovered these two ads that were placed in the local newspaper years ago. How well have these ads stood the test of time? Things sure do look a little different now, but we are proud to remain committed to excellent patient care just as we were back then.

We’d like to make a special shout out this evening to ASW Distillery for donating and supplying us with some additional hand sanitizer for our practice. We are so impressed by the extra actions businesses in our community are taking to help aid in the fight of COVID-19. Thank you from the team at Academy Orthopedics!!

Social distancing doesn't mean you can't stay active! Now more than ever, there are tons of free fitness resources, classes, and tips all over the internet. You could even get started with a virtual fitness group! Grab some friends via your favorite video messaging app and give this HIIT Circuit a try. Movement and exercise are incredibly beneficial for our mobility, and, more specifically, our bones! Dr. Katz got a special request for a multi-colored cast this morning, so he decided to have a little fun with it! Who’s to say orthopedics can’t qualify as an art form?

With as serious as everything has been lately, we decided to have some April Fools fun! Unfortunately, there was no fooling Dr. Duckett about who was the better dancer. We'll let you decide who would win in a dance battle- Dr. Duckett, or Dr. D's mini me?
