Good afternoon Montgomery. I hope you all are well and safe. After reading the last update from the Coastal Health District, I just wanted to ensure that we as a community are staying informed and cautious as it relates to COVID-19. Data obtained and analyzed by zip code shows a 30% increase in cases over the last 8 days in our area. ... The numbers continue to rise as restrictions are reduced and things seem to be getting back to normal. It is important to continue to take precautions, and limit unnecessary exposure to yourself and others. While we are talking about safety and precautions, do you have a hurricane plan in place? The season is upon us and now is the time to know what you will do in the event a storm heads our way. Stay safe and healthy Montgomery. Chief Max Nowinsky

Good morning Montgomery. I hope this post finds you and your family safe and in good health. Hurricane season is right around the corner. Being prepared is the key to reducing stress and uncertainty as storms begin to develop and track towards the coast. Are you someone who may need assistance in the event of an evacuation, or do you know someone who does? The Coastal Health District maintains a hurricane registry and provides assistance to those who meet the criteria. This ...can include assistance with transportation to a safe location in the event an evacuation is necessary. You can sign up by calling a toll-free number 1-833-243-7344, where you’ll be asked some screening questions. Now is a great time to begin your planning and preparations so if a storm heads our way, all you have to do is implement your plan. I hope you all have the opportunity to enjoy this beautiful Saturday. Until next time, stay safe Montgomery. Chief Max Nowinsky

Once again, Montgomery proves why it’s the best community in the county (our opinion is a little biased). Tonight wasn’t just about having a parade, it was about getting to know our new truck, how it handles, and it’s turning radius. The parade was just a bonus. We are so thankful to everyone who came out smiling and waving. We especially enjoyed those who yelled Merry Christmas. That was very amusing and unexpected.... We hope we brought a little joy and excitement. On behalf of all Montgomery volunteers, Chief Max Nowinsky Deputy Chief Chris Mills Assistant Chief Ryan Selgren A special thanks goes out to Chief Mills who is also the Fleet Manager for Chatham Emergency Services. He played an integral role in getting this apparatus ready and delivered to the station. We will post some pictures and a video of Tender 6 arriving at the station for the first time in a separate post, and we will have lots more photos tomorrow. Stay safe and healthy Montgomery!

Specific route: Whitfield from Truman to Cartwright all residential neighborhoods (not every side street)... We hope to see you tonight.

Good morning Montgomery. I hope this post finds you all safe and healthy on this beautiful Sunday. We are excited to announce that our new water tender will be delivered and put into service on Tuesday. At 6pm, the volunteers and paid personnel will get the chance to look over the new apparatus and learn about its operation. ... To celebrate this occasion, and because we miss you all, we will be bringing our new truck to neighborhoods in our community in a mini-parade. We expect to leave the station around 7pm. Please note- we will only be traveling down the main roads in our coverage area and throughout the neighborhoods. While we encourage everyone to come out and wave and check out our new apparatus, we ask that you please adhere to CDC guidelines and maintain social distancing. Water tenders play a vital role in fire protection for Montgomery. They are primarily utilized to shuttle water to the scene of fires in areas without hydrants, or areas where the water pressure isn’t sufficient enough to support firefighting operations. Our new water tender also has a pump that will allow it to be used for certain fire suppression efforts as well. We hope to see you Tuesday night! Until then, stay safe and healthy. Chief Max Nowinsky

Chatham Fire 22.07.2020

Good evening Montgomery. I hope this finds you all safe and healthy. Earlier this afternoon CES units responded to Marcy Circle in the Whitefield Park subdivision on a report of a structure fire. The caller reported seeing flames coming from the home. The first unit on scene reported heavy smoke and fire coming from the structure, and the surrounding areas. ... The wind speed and direction was pushing the fire in the structure towards the unburned portion of the house, while the fire burning outside the residence was advancing towards a neighboring structure. Firefighters quickly set up attack lines and prevented the spread to the neighboring structure while simultaneously trying to stop the spread of the main fire. Several fire engines, a ladder truck, and 2 water tenders were all utilized to extinguish the fire and shuttle water to the scene. There were no injuries to the residents or the firefighters that battled the blaze. At a time like this, as we all face the effects of the ongoing pandemic, we must make an effort to look for the positive, even in the most tragic situations. Numerous friends and neighbors were on scene offering their support and assistance to the displaced family. I would personally like to thank all of those who assisted the family and the firefighters who were working the scene. This is another reason we are proud to serve, and call the Montgomery community home. Stay safe and healthy Montgomery. Chief Max Nowinsky

Earlier this evening, Chatham Fire units responded to a possible structure fire on Eastridge Drive. First arriving units found light smoke visible. Firefighters quickly investigated the cause and mitigated the hazard. The fire was electrical in nature. Quick detection and a quick response led to a positive outcome. Friends and neighbors stood ready to assist the occupants. ... Despite the drastically different normal we are all facing, we are still here to serve. 7 of the responding firefighters were your friends, family, and neighbors. We are proud to serve Montgomery and the surrounding communities. Tomorrow, we will make history as we hold our weekly training meeting remotely using video conferencing technology. Stay safe and healthy Montgomery. While we do our part to help stop the spread, rest easy knowing you are still well protected. Chief Max Nowinsky

Good evening Montgomery. I just wanted to take a moment to let you know that we, as first responders, are staying up to date on the latest developments regarding COVID-19. Based on recommendations from health officials, and government leadership, we are doing our part to minimize the risk and exposure of our members. Our goal is to maintain a state of readiness and good health so that we may continue to serve our community, which is deeply important to us. ... Make no mistake about it, when the call goes out, we stand ready to respond! We encourage you all to stay informed, remain calm, and patient. Please adhere to the recommendations and possible restrictions that are being implemented to help stop, or minimize the spread of the coronavirus. Stay safe and healthy Montgomery! Chief Max Nowinsky

Upon arrival following a very quick response, firefighters reported heavy smoke coming from the structure. Firefighters quickly established a water supply and made entry. Chatham Fire 30.05.2020

Good evening Montgomery. I just wanted to share some information regarding the potential for severe weather tomorrow. This information was obtained from the National Weather Service briefing issued this afternoon. Thursday February 6th, 2020 there is the potential for severe weather to occur across SE Georgia and SC. The timing for the coastal areas is between 6pm and Midnight. ... As a strong cold front passes through the area, a strong line of storms is expected to pass over our area. Strong winds and a low risk for tornadoes are the primary concern. Please stay up to date on developing weather forecasts and conditions. Have a plan of action in the event a tornado impacts our area. Avoid unnecessary travel during the event. As always, we are here to serve and stand ready to protect our neighbors and this great community. Stay safe. Chief Max Nowinsky
