In honor of Black History Month, the city of Valdosta will host a virtual weekly trivia contest. All trivia questions will center around notable achievements made throughout black history. All participants have the chance to win a tote bag filled with additional fun prizes. Contents can be seen in the picture below. Questions will be posted to the city’s Facebook page every Monday morning, starting on Monday, February 1, until the end of the month. To participate, simply post... your answer in the comments. A winner will be drawn at random from the correct answers and announced the following Friday morning. As all city buildings remained closed due to COVID, winners can pick up their prizes by contacting the PIO office (229)259-3548.

From all of us at the City of Valdosta, have a very Merry Christmas! As a friendly reminder, City offices will be closed all of Christmas Day, and there will be no sanitation pick-up. However, citizens who normally have their sanitation collected on Friday should place their garbage and yard waste at the curbside by 5 a.m. on Dec. 28 for Friday pickups.... Valdosta Main Street is gearing up to kick off a month-long ‘Love Downtown Valdosta’ marketing campaign. This campaign will run through the entire month of February, from Monday, February 1 until Sunday, February 28. More information here: https://bit.ly/3qXUoak.

The Stormwater Division has a stormwater tip for the month of January.

Today the Valdosta Police Department and members of the Valdosta Fire Department took part in the annual Police Santa event. The department gave out presents to several neighborhoods across the city.

RIBBON CUTTING CEREMONY CELEBRATES OPENING OF NEW SGRC VALDOSTA FACILITY On December 11th, a ribbon cutting ceremony was held to celebrate the opening of the So...uthern Georgia Regional Commission’s new 15,000 square foot office in Valdosta. Executive Director Lisa Cribb thanked the many people who made this state-of-the-art facility a reality including SGRC Chairman Joyce Evans, the SGRC Council, City and County officials, the Valdosta-Lowndes County Development Authority, Commercial Banking Company, Ellis Ricket Architects, Lovell Engineering, and Kellerman Construction. WATER OUTAGES: The City of Valdosta crews will be making emergency repairs to several water mains within the city limits. Residents and businesses in the following areas may experience water outages due to the water main breaks: - Baytree & Sustella Ave Area - North Valdosta Road from Five Points to the City Limits near The Links Apartments - North Oak Street ... -2000 Block of Melrose Crews are working as quickly as possible to get the repairs completed Traffic control and devices will be in place to inform motorists of any road closures & detour areas. Motorists are urged to drive with caution and adhere to the traffic warning signs for their safety and the safety of others. Girls Night Out was a ton of fun! Thank you to all the ladies that came out to support the local businesses in downtown Valdosta.

With "Dostie" spending his last few days in Valdosta before he heads back to the North Pole he is trying to learn as much as possible! Today he spent time at the Customer Service Department and had a ton of fun.

"Dostie" was put to work during his time with the Valdosta Fire Department. He plans to take all his new skills back to the North Pole and help educate all the other elves about fire safety.

Today was tacky sweater day at the city offices!

The Honorable Judge Vernita Lee Bender will be lying in repose on Friday, December 11, 2020, from 10:00am to 1:00pm at Crossing Jordan Baptist Church located at 1401 Cypress Street, Valdosta, Georgia where Ronnie Mathis serves as the Pastor. A Private Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, December 12, 2020. Due to the COVID Pandemic, the services planned for Saturday will be private, however, they will be Live Stream on Luke Strong And Son Mortuary Facebook page.
