The rich history of our county goes deep. The Springer family and their patriarch, Simeon valued education highly. He moved to Douglas County so his many children could receive a full education. His many descendants have borne witness to his foresight and hard work. His farm was on the land that is now the Douglas County Courthouse and the Woody Fite Senior Center.

Many historic books and documents are in the archives at the museum, including this Georgia history textbook from 1893. You see the author's name in the photo. Under what pen name did he author at least five additional volumes in addition to many humorous newspaper columns?
Five Oak trees were planted in 1920 in memory of Douglas County men who died in service to their country during World War I. One hundred years later, while those trees no longer stand a local artisan has carved beautiful items that continue to honor their sacrifice. They are available in the museum shop for viewing or purchase. Additional wood from these trees remains for other craftsmen who might like to add their own creative memorials.
