New baby days are great days!!!
Dental photo day!! Notice the rough edges against the cheek (known as Sharp Enamel Points or SEPs). These can cause irritation to the cheeks or ulcerations (red arrows). The lower teeth develop these edges on the tongue (or lingual) side. The use of a mouth speculum allows good visualization of the entire mouth. Often times, the edges are not apparent on the first few teeth which is why a speculum is important. During a *float* these SEP are filed down.
As lush and nutritious as it may look, spring grass could potentially lead to laminitis in some horses due to its higher nonstructural carbohydrate (NSC) content. Horses at risk should be kept on dry lots and fed hay low in NSC or should wear a grazing muzzle while on pasture. Talk to us if you suspect your horse is showing signs of laminitis. With the rain, we received this week everyone needs to watch their horses closely.

This is a very popular question. Providing your horse with the best overall health care certainly helps. Including: appropriate diet and exercise, proper vaccination, deworming regularly, regular care from hoof to teeth, and body clipping, if needed. #EveryDayCounts
