Georgia Association for Play Therapy 02.05.2021

Hi Georgia play therapists! We would like to plan the next online Networking event, but want to know which days and times would work best for people. Since I’ve not yet figured out how to do a poll (there’s a reason I’m a play therapist and not a computer person), please respond in the comments with which of the following days and times would work best for you: Fridays at noon Fridays at 6pm Saturdays at 9am Saturdays at noon... Saturdays at 6pm See more

It's day 6 of National Play Therapy Week. To celebrate today, we are sharing an important member spotlight: our own Kristi Cronan. Kristi is engaged in a teaching and research initiative through her Ph.D. in counselor education and supervision with Regent University. Currently Kristi and her team are partnering with local helpers in Peru to understand how to best support those they care in the midst of the pandemic. Officials in Peru have reported significant increases in m...ental health concerns as result of the pandemic; however, their mental health system is undeveloped. To support their community Kristi and her team are hosting an 8 week training on understanding how psychologists and other professionals can partner with those adversely effected in useful ways.(in Peru, psychologists have a Bachelors level psychology studies, but most often no further training). For Kristi's portion of the training she is teaching about childhood development and understanding how to best engage with and nurture children through a play therapy lens. Much of the information is similar to what parents would hear in the States when working with an RPT, but the focus is on providing assistance to a community with limited mental health structures in place in ways that are safe to the recipients. The live training lasts from February to April. Great work Kristi! Thanks for all you do! #playtherapyweek2021 See more
