On 29 March 2021 at approximately 11:52 AM, Glynn County Fire Rescue responded to a woods fire on Victorian Lakes Drive. The fire was controlled after 7:00 PM. Spot fires continue to smolder within the break and should be expected to burn over the next week. Approximately 275 acres of pine forest was burned with no injury or loss of life reported. Fires in the wildland-urban interface have been a problem for a long time. More strict air quality standards have led to reduced ...controlled burning of underbrush and have resulted in a higher fuel load. This fact combined with increased development of woodlands has created a need for extreme care while practicing open burning. Open burning in Georgia requires a permit from the Georgia Forestry Commission at https://gatrees.org/fire-prevention-suppressi/burn-permits/ or by phone at 1-877-OK2-BURN (652-2876). According to the Georgia Forestry Commission, the Georgia Rules for Air Quality define open burning as any outdoor fire from which the products of combustion are emitted directly into the open air without passing through a stack, chimney, or duct. All outdoor burning of natural vegetative materials is considered open burning and requires a burn permit.
