The Supreme Court of Georgia has issued an order regarding the Georgia Rules of Professional Conduct and lawyer participation in closings of real estate transactions. In part:... To the extent that the Rules of Professional Conduct may require an attorney to be physically present at the closing of a real estate transaction and in close proximity to the parties to the transaction, in the light of the current circumstances and after consultation with the president of the State Bar, the Court temporarily suspends any such requirement and orders that, so far as the Rules of Professional Conduct are concerned, a lawyer may participate in and supervise the closing of a real estate transaction by way of video conference. Important Reminder! US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has issued a revised I-9 Form, which all employers must use for their new hires starting May 1, 2020. This Form verifies a new hire's identity and their authorization to work in the United States. Employers can fill out a paper form by hand or use the electronic, fillable form. I-9 Forms should be retained by the Employer for each person hired for a period of three years from the date of hire, or for one yea...r after the employment relationship ends, whichever is later. Officials from the US Department of Homeland Security, US Department or Labor and/or US Department of Justice are authorized to conduct audits related to the proper use of I-9 forms.
