A 3D mammogram, or digital breast tomosynthesis (DBT), is a "2.5D" or pseudo-3D technology. It has limited visibility in the coronal direction (front-to-back of the chest). Clinical studies have shown minimal improvement over conventional mammography in detectability, especially for dense breasts.
