For those that want to attract wildlife and do your part to help the ecosystem with native plants but prefer a more tidy garden look, it can be done. Here is a great article with tips for creating this type of space.
A very interesting story about how some of our trees and plants have become extinct. The first tree on the list, the Franklin Tree, is available at the nursery. We have these in a 3 gallon size for $28, and now is a great time to plant them. https://www.nytimes.com//plants-extinction-north-america.h
We always enjoy the great information posted by Georgia Native Plant Society. The Franklin Tree is one of the beautiful trees that we have available here at the nursery that has a very interesting history. All native trees and perennials are on sale until the end of November. We are open today from 10am to 5pm.
Now through winter (yes, even in winter) is the best time to plant trees. We have a great selection of trees available in 3 gallon sizes for $28 each. Here is an article with some great info about fall and winter planting and some tips for planting success. https://arbordayblog.org//why-its-great-to-plant-trees-in/
Here is a wonderful article from the South Carolina Native Plant Society about just how important our native trees are. We have many native trees available, and now is a the perfect time to plant them.
We are happy to say that Little Creek Farm Nursery is garden number 214 on the Rosalynn Carter Butterfly Trail. For those of you who have created pollinator gardens this year or who would like to start, we would like to encourage you to add your garden to the trail too. Info on how to register your garden can be found on the butterfly trail website. https://rosalynncarterbutterflytrail.org/
For those who have asked for the American Beautyberry in white, we now have nine available. These are in one gallon pots for $10 each. Hurry while they last!
Here is a great free resource with beautiful illustrations all about our valuable native bees and how you can help save them. When we save our bees, we take a huge step in saving ourselves.
If you are considering creating a tea garden or adding more beneficial native plants to your yard, one of the most interesting plants we have is definitely the Yaupon Holly. We have these amazing plants available in the one gallon size for only $10. Not only are they valuable to humans, but they are a great plant to add to help wildlife and help the local ecosystem. https://www.sipsby.com/blogs/tealover-101/yaupon.
Here is an excellent article from Texas Butterfly Ranch on how we can all help our ecosystem with some great links for more information and a link to the Doug Tallamy webinar on October 8th.
Many are planting new trees or will be mulching existing trees. Here is a great article with some info on how to mulch around trees. Remember, keep your mulch at least 5 inches from the trunk of the tree, and please don't make a "mulch volcano". https://agrilifeextension.tamu.edu//how-much-mulch-shoul/.
Here is a great graphic explaining how native plants not only look beautiful, they help our earth by controlling erosion, saving water, and so much more. Fall is the perfect time to plant, and we have plenty of native plants for every yard.
Save time, money, and the earth by not using landscape fabric under your mulch.
Our Georgia State Wildflower is the native azalea, and there is no doubt why these lovely plants have that title. We have many to choose from at the nursery with more varieties coming soon. Here is a great article about bloom time and other great information. http://usinggeorgianativeplants.blogspot.com//parade-of-na
