Congratulations to the Recuperative Care team as the recipients of a $35,000 gift from Georgia Power. This grant will go towards project support for women's services. Georgia Power has been a huge supporter of Mercy Care and in the last 5 years has given more than $550,000 in financial support. Georgia Power also supports us with volunteers and most recently did a corporate-wide drive for gifts of warmth for our patients in December.

The winter solstice on Monday, December 21, celebrates the longest hours of darkness and the rebirth of the sun. It is believed to hold a powerful energy for regeneration, renewal and self-reflection. The date also falls within the Christian season of Advent, which celebrates the promise of light over darkness. Across the country, memorials take place on or around the winter solstice to reflect on the plight of those who have no home in which to take shelter and to remember those who died while homeless during the year. While we can't gather together outdoors at our Decatur Street location as usual, we hope you will join us with an unlit candle in hand from your own front step, patio or driveway as we do our best to create the experience virtually.

During the month of December, it is extremely important to keep safety in your mind while shopping for toys for the children in your life. According to CPSC, there were approximately 226,100 toy-related injuries in 2018. Some tips to help keep you and your loved ones away from harm this holiday season: - Buy age-appropriate toys... - Inspect the toy before you decide to buy it - Avoid toys with ropes, cords, and small objects, as these items can cause choking. Our Lady of Guadalupe Day is celebrated every year on December 12. The Spanish holiday celebrates the appearance of the Virgin Mary to an indigenous man, named Juan Diego, in 1531. Typically, fiestas are held on this day to celebrate, people attend their church and many people travel miles to the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico City to show a sign of devotion to Mary. To all our friends celebrating today, we at Mercy Care are thinking of you.

Seven days left! Make sure you count! The Census determines trillions in federal funding across state and local governments for healthcare, fire stations, roads and more. Georgia ranks 47th out of 50 states. Each person living in Georgia who is not counted would cost the state about $3,850 each year until the next Census in 2030. Complete the Census for your household by phone at 844-330-2020 or online at www.2020census.gov before September 30.

Our Georgia team, including state lead Leanne Jeong, Markus Cicka, and Rachel D’Cunha, donated 25 devices to Mercy Care in Atlanta, GA! This drop-off included 1...5 brand new tablets! Mercy Care is a federally qualified health center and Atlanta’s only healthcare for the homeless program (330h). Mercy Care accepts most insurances plans, Medicare and Medicaid, and offers a sliding fee scale based on household income for uninsured patients. These devices will help their low-income patients access essential medical care from home. There are multiple Mercy Care clinics in the Atlanta area, and our GA team hopes to deliver even more devices to help patients in all of the Mercy Care clinics across Georgia. If you're interested in donating a device/funds, visit telehealthforseniors.org!
